Official Gmail Tips Thread

I thought it would be a good idea to have a central place for everyone here that uses Gmail to contribute any tips/tricks/links/etc regarding Gmail.

One thing that I use a lot is the keyboard. ;) Most know about this but some may not. If you want to checkmark multiple messages you can obviously use the: Select: All, Read, Unread, Starred, Unstarred, None at the top of the page. However, you can also use your TAB key and press the SPACE bar to check/uncheck a box..comes in handy sometimes. (note, this is standard for any textbox/radio button control in most any Windows app as well).

Yeah I saw that GmailCompose (Firefox/Mozilla) but my mailto links already spawn a Gmail compose window...oh wait...that's probably only when I do so from within Gmail itself.

That's brilliant, thanks for the links! I'm digging the keyboard shortcuts -- they're ALMOST like vi. With a little bit of practice I should get quite proficient!

Ahhh vi ...man, it's been a while since I used that. Unbelieveable how fast and efficient you could be with it's keyboard shortcuts. I use to drum out web pages with that sucker. :)

Ok, a little update, i cant get it to work in FireFox .8, but works in .9 heh i dont like to contradict the author maybe im just dumb.

Hmm, does it not dl correctly? If it did then you need to go to the customize menu and drag and drop it in the title bar. I'm sure you know this but I just posted this incase.

I download it and 'install it' then it says restart firefox, i do and it dosent show up in the extentions and not in the customize area.

Hmm wierd. I don't know enough about FF to really help you. MUYA and I were talking about it last nite and he had the same problem but he figured it out. I don't know what he did but you might ask him.
