Hey guys...

My 6800 GT will arrive tomorrow and I am unsure which drivers to go with? Right now I am currently thinking the 34... but would the 71 be a better bet? What drivers will get the best results? How easy is it to switch back and forthe between drivers?

Chris

i have tried all the dirvers releases i have heard about here, and i like 61.71 far and away the best. far cry is smoother in d3d, but WAY better in openGL mode and i gained about 15 fps ikn ut2004. and changing them is easy if you are going up in version. going back is a little trickier (if you dont use the windows rollback feature), but still very possible

actually (un)installing drivers is very simple. add/remove current nvidia drivers, reboot in safe mode, run Driver Cleaner 3 (http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/), install new drivers in safe mode, reboot.

I always run the latest available release by nVidia (beta or WHQL)

I don't uninstall any drivers before installing new ones, that way I can go back to old ones if I need or want to do so. You have to do it manually though, very easy to do. Just do the ol' I Will Choose...Have Disk routine.

Thats what i thought. I have just heard of so many problems with the ATI sector that I was unsure how the nvidia's handled it. I plan to install the .71 and if i dont like it for some reason will go to the 34... I CANNT WAIT- - Card it here tomorrow. Going to reinstall windows tonight for a fresh platform. Only takes 1/2 hour with my new system.

zoomy..Don't take this the wrong way, but you were really quick to give advice on what FW is best to use with a 6800...but I see you have an FX card......Can I ask how you know that the .71s will be the best for a 6800??

61.36 work best for me. 61.71 for some reason doesn't enable AA in ut2004.

To tell you the truth, only you will know. Different drivers will react differently to different hardware and software configurations ;) But generally speaking the 61.71 is currently the latest official build available. They were leaked by Gainward (who makes GeForce 6800's by the way).

I use the 61.45 drivers myself. No major problems in anything I've tried. You won't go wrong with the 61.34s either.

i am one of those lost souls that loves the driver game. i try new ones the moment i hear abou them. i even installed a 5600 at wqork, so if i hear about one there, i can try it before i get home! how pathetic am i?

That's why we have a driver forum for us poor lost souls. :D

BTW, I don't have a 6800GT (yet) but I have been using the 61.71s and they are working very well with no noticeable problems in the 5700U. I had basically the same experience with the 61.45s and would also recommend them.
The 61.34s were not up to par with these two but I have not tried them since the problems have been reportedly been fixed.

Ok......so the concensus is:Forceware 61.71 are the best available for the 6800 right now???
thanks :)

I wouldn't say it's the best since AA doesn't turn on in ut2k4 with the 61.71's or maybe it's just me.

61.71 I would think. I have no problems with any games.
