Ok name the brand you have of Geforce 6800 GT, driver used, and core/memory frequencies you have maxed out at.
Also list overclocking utility

Ill start:)

Chaintech 6800GT

Driver = 61.71

Core= 429
Memory = 1.2ghz

Coolbits

It wont let me go any farther with neiter the core or the memory

BFG 6800 GT OC, 61.45 drivers, using Coolbits got the card to 431/1120. Core can go to 440, but that causes major texture flashing in OpenGL. I wish the memory would go higher, but it's just not in the cards. :(

Cool bits 2
Driver =61.21
core 410
memory 1100
BFG 6800 GT

So i ran 3dmark at default settings and got 10328

After rasing the core and memory to the above listed change was very minor
10368.

Is this to be expected

Some of you post before and after bench marks please

Before my overclock I actually got real close to 11000. It was like 10992 or something.

61.71 castrated my mem frequency..
about 50mghz....
61.36 held me back 25mghz.
just some info...

Try using RivaTuner to o/c. RivaTuner will let you run higher clocks than the nvidia driver by disabling internal clock test and replacing that with visual clock test (i.e. gaming/benchmark testing). I've had my 5900nu up to 525/1020 with this technique (default 400/850) although it isn't always 100% stable in 3D.

410/1.1 (sig :))

Heres a problem that I have if I overclock any higher - I'll be benching or playing a game when all the sudden it just freezes. Wait anywhere from 10seconds to a minute and it keeps right on going. Is this the card throttling itself? The highest temptaure I've observed with this card was about 82C the first day I had it. Since then I haven't seen it go above 78C.

It even happens everyonce in a while at 410/1.1 - just not frequently. I've played UT for over 2 hours without any issues. Never noticed it at stock speeds. It happens more frequently the higher the card is clocked. Just seems a bit wierd to me.

The freezing can be caused just as easily by high stress than it can by too much heat. In other words, heat isn't always the problem. Voltage is another serious thing to consider when o/c anything. The CPU/GPU/RAM all need proper voltage to operate at certain frequencies. The higher you go with frequencies, the more voltage you will need to run it stable. But the more voltage, the more heat. Thats why a majority of people who do serious overclocking and volt-modding use water cooling on their systems.

Yeah, I assumed as much. I was just hoping for a nice overclocking card.

Hopefully my ultra will behave a little better when I get it on tuesday :)

i got my card up to 436/1180 using coolbits. my temps are 84C load and 60C idle. those are the same temps i get when i had 418/1190. i did put as5 on the core though so that probably helped drop temps a degree or two

i cant get anymore than 438 on the core and 1190mem using coolbits. havent tried rivatuner yet

Coolbits are just extension of the driver so it uses the driver's internal clock test, which you could call a stress test/stability test. Its usually pretty accurate when determining max (stable) clock frequencies. You can go higher than that for testing purposes, by using RivaTuner, but its possible to destroy your card ! Use with caution !

I just used the GOSU OCing utility that came on a cd with my chaintech card

got less out of the CORE but more out of the RAM

I scored 12546
Much better than before and it was due to higher RAM values

I wish these drivers were WHQLd!

Pimp!

BFG 6800 GT OC

61.36 drivers

core max - 436
mem max - 1140

3dmark03 score - 12043

(any more and it locks up)

Not bad for an old AMDXP 3000 though!

At least it made the 12K club. :)

Take off the side panel and use a large box fan to blow air into the case. lol, works for me.
