This would have to be an exceptional fake....This is the first "leak" that actually seems legit..

With Windows XP's skin support, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was fake. The thing that bothers me the most is that first screenie where it says "Windows Codename Longhorn." I'm suspicious of the use of the word codename in the install screen.
If it's legit, I'll eat my due crow, but I won't be the least bit surprised if it's been fudged.
If these guys are faking, they sure are brave....Offering a Remote Desktop connection to systems running Longhorn as a prize!!!

Welp, Activewin has confirmed (http://www.activewin.com/awin/comments.asp?HeadlineIndex=13143&Group=1) it, that these are indeed real screenies of the upcoming M$ OS or winxp addon...

Man, I still think its fake, and if they are real, dang, Longhorn is gonna be boring. Its gonna be like... "Windows XP Part 2" or "The Empire(MS) Steps Back".:p

this is the best that a 3d accelerated GUI can do?
They said only *some* objects of the OS will be accelerated.
Maybe they haven't added that feature yet
Still that looks just as my XP :|
From the link Juice posted:
"The new UI is internally being referred to as 'Plex'.
'Plex' is nowhere remotely near being finished. Developers are currently toying around with it. "
Don't lose hope yet.....this could still end up being really cool....
:D

well, everything is supposed to be a texture, doesn't that classify it as "3d accelerated?"
unless of course, Microsoft had to trim down their grandiose plans, wouldn't be the first time

Of course it looks like XP because it's based off XP. When work on XP started, it was based on 2000, and of course, it looked like 2000.
Just take a look at some of the early screenshots of Whistler (the codename for XP)
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/whistler_preview.asp
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/whistler_beta1.asp
And as the screenshots were from an alpha build, it sure won't end up looking like that by the time it gets released in 2005 or so. The version used doesn't have the 3d layer impelemented yet. And as it's planned now, a 3d card isn't required, it'll use software rendering.
If you guys want some of the better (as in more accurate) info, go to http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp and read that. Some of it is outdated now, but still pretty accurate.

performance and ease of use supposedly. but those are improvements always promised by MS. at least WinXP was a whole lot more reliable than any other MS consumer OS

Well, I'm still not convinced by XP over 2000 either - though their new line of servers (.NET) for corporate businesses is another story.

Besides, if you're interested, Windows 'Black Comb' (successor of Windows .NET Server) is already in the works, and so would be the successor of Titanium, itself the successor of Exchange 2000... :)

most of what was going to be Blackcomb is being incorporated into Longhorn. so i wonder how much different Blackcomb will be, as well as when it is going to come out.

AFATGFMS (As far as the guy from MS) told me, Microsoft is no longer developping its NT OSes with same duality Server / Workstation they used for NT 3.51 up to 2000. .NET Server is not really an "XP Server" (slightly different architecture), and so Black Comb is not gonna be "LongHorn Server" either (although it will most probably resemble it closely).
We'll be looking at two different series of OSes from now on.
