Hey. I got my BFG 6800GT OC from Comp-u-plus yesterday, and played around with it a good bit last night. The first thing I have to say is that Farcry looks beautiful with all settings turned to max. Truly stunning. I went from a 3dMark03 score of 1855 with my old GeForce 4 Ti4600 to a score of 11407 with my GT with no overclock (just the standard BFG OC).

That said, I was a bit concerned with my running temperatures. I remember hearing at least one person say their GT runs at about 56C with 2d apps, and 66C in games? Mine runs at about 59C in 2d apps, and got up to 82C running Farcry... Is this normal? Is this too hot? I'm using the Coolermaster Praetorian case, so I have a good number of fans pumping air through the case. A number of cords are blocking airflow a bit, but I can't really help that. I ended up leaving the side of my case open last night to give it more airflow, but that's obviously a temporary solution.

Just curious what everyone thinks. Gracias!

I just got my eVGA 6800GT in yesterday.

I didnt really get to much time to play around with it. I ran 3dmark03 a few times, thats about it.

The temps where around
56 to 60 idle
and
66 to 69 3D.

Then again i didnt get a change to do any gaming, so the 3D temps would problaly increase slightly.

Is this normal? Is this too hot?

If it's anything like the 5900s the control panel should tell you a shutdown (or alert) temperature. That should allow you to judge what's safe.

On the 5900 that's 140C. My 5900U idles at ~55C and frequently hits 90-100C under heavy 3D load, I honestly can't say I'm concerned (this is *not* using stock cooling).

These things aren't CPUs. Don't use your CPU-based preconceptions about what's hot and what's not for judging GPUs.
