Even the die hard ATI guys know by now that the 6800 series has put nVidia back in the game, especially the GT and the plain old Jane 6800 is a really good bang per buck card also, but what has been happening with the lower ranks while your head has been turned by this most seductive of mistresses ?

Have you seen the FX 5500 3dmark2001 scores ? Argh, it makes the 5200 look like a powerhouse. What the hell is that thing ??? I have decided to buy one just to find out, cost me a parking fine in central London, so very good value for money as I will get more enjoyment out of this. Maybe. Err....

What brought this on was a friend of my wifes husband who had bought a brand new machine after about 5 years of nagging his wife. Check out this spec

3Ghz+ cpu ( I presume Intel ;) )
100+GB hard disk space
19 inch flat screen monitor
DVD + CDRW
7 speakers and a subwoofer

Sounds good, so I thought, hey lets introduce him to Far Cry. So I took down my CD to show off the waves and fishes and palm trees and how good your ice cream cone looks and noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

bloody video card is a GF MX 440

sob sob.

So we played Jet Set Willy, Donkey Kong and Chuckie Egg all afternoon....

Regards

Andy

5500 is a NV34, same core as the 5200. Avoid it for gaming. 5700LE is much better in terms of performance wise.

If the 5500 is a dieshrunk NV34, is the MX 4000 a dieshrunk NV18 then?
