No. The X800 cards can only do SM2.0.

$398 USD? If so then yes, that's a great price.

For one thing X800 XT is not Nvidia its made by ATI, and if ya want SM3 you will have to get one of Geforce 6800, at the moment those are only cards .

Radeon X800 XT for 398$ is good deal even without SM3
Geforce 6800GT goes for arround 400$ if ya look a bit , some sites do overcharge.

If you goto a ATi site they will say that SM 3.0 isnt worth it. If you goto a Nvidia site they will praise that SM 3.0 is from the gods. I say go for what your perfere. If you like ATi go for ATi....if you like Nvidia go for Nvidia.

Both companies did a pretty good job this time around so I don't think you can make a "bad" purchase - the performance leap from the last generation is pretty awesome.

Go with the 6800 GT. Has similair to 6800 Ultra performance at $100 less. MSRP fro GT is 399.99. You can order direct from evga www.evga.com
You can also check the Preorder guide as there are several places listed for each version of the 6800. The 6800 Non ultra is a 12 pipe card and costs MSRP of 299, however, I would recommend the GT by far over that since the GT is a 16 pipe card.

All 6800 versions support SM 3.0/PS3.0

What i dont get is why is the anandtech review showing the X800 XT benchmarks for PS3.0?

Only thing I can say is its a mis print or an error. There are NO ATI cards that support SM3.0/PS3.0 at this time. It was not included in the hardware and cannot be placed in by software. If you give me a link to what your viewing at Anandtech, Id be happy to take a look.

Did you read the entire article?

On page four of the article (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2102&p=4) you'll find this bit of info:
ATI cards are always run in SM2.0 mode (as they don't support SM3.0), so the labels on the graphs only reflect the code path that NVIDIA's cards take. Each level analysis will have an SM2.0 comparison (both NVIDIA and ATI on the same path) and an SM3.0 comparison (NVIDIA running SM3.0 with ATI running SM2.0).

The X800 cards do an extended version of PS2.0, as I understand it, and are capable of up to 1,536 instructions.

Here's an expanded detail:

Yeah what Clay said.....I lookked through the article :) Also be aware that another patch fro FarCry is in the works besides the 1.2(which adds SM3.0 support). The 1.3 patch will further add in more SM3.0 compatibilites as well as improved visuals(so say the rumours). Honestly, and its not because Im on the NV forums, but I would recommend the 6800 series over the x800. It has a longer staying power simply being that it does support 3.0 and games are beginning to adopt SM3.0. If you buy an x800, you will end up having to upgrade up yet again in 6 months-12 months just to get SM3.0. With a 6800 series, that wont be necessary. Add to that, that performance is generally better even in SM2.0 games on GT vs x800 pro and is about even with XT vs ultra(of course XT has no SM3.0) so paying $400 for a vid card that doesnt support something being used in many upcomming games is kinda shooting yourself in the foot in my oppinion. This is my oppinion tho and some ppl may view things different. Buy what you feel you are comfortable with. By the way, the 6800 series tends to have a higher overclock ability then the x800's.
