Hi everyone, i apologise now if someones already done this but i couldn't find anything here.

Over at beyond, a person who went to a nvidia presentation night said that nvidia stated that the HDR implementation for Far Cry would result in 40-50 frames at 1024x768 and that is acceptable. There was also something about not seeing the jaggies as much (I can find the post if need be).

After reading this i am thinking about holding off my 6800U purchase and by the refresh (nv48) since i hate plying at 1024 with such an expensive card.

Have i got this all wrong?

Even if thats correct , i dont see that as a good reason to hold your 6800U purchase :retard:

i will take any day ...1024x768 + SM3.0 + True HDR Fp16blending +ofset mapping +real time Dynamic softshadows everywhere againts Farcry running at 1600x1200 with 4xAA/16AF but in ps1.x/2.0 mode without any advanced Effects or IQ.

more because the the old farcry mode will still be playable at highest settings, but Geofrce6800 users will have the [option] to play with much higher quality and good looking effects. to have a choice to enable extras is always better than not having any other at all.

i still rememebr how amazing Unreal1 was at 800x600 in my Tnt2 card.. without AA/AF and looked superior to anything outhere. dont see why the experience should be any diferent with any other high quality game.

I was expecting this generation to blaze in the benchmarks a little longer but if faster cards mean they can introduce new and exciting features that will change our gaming experiences, well then i guess i'm all for it too. You do have some good points, sometimes, NV40.

Does this mean that a cpu at say 3ghz will stop being the bottleneck if the graphics card will strain a lot more? More than 1600 aax4 afx8 anyway.

take it easy nv40, he will buy a new nvidia card, he will just wait for the refresh :D

but if the Nv40 can pull off high frame rates at 1600x1024 with AA and AF enabled, then 1024x768 with the highest AA and AF would be even better... imagine.. you'd be pulling in frames in around the high 80-90 mark.

spanker is right, right now and for the last mth i've had my eye on a 6800. How can you seriously not buy nvidia over ati at this time? Ofcourse, they just have to arrive in Australia. And a fair price would be nice aswell.
