k, just pre-ordered a 6800 GT. (had to)

I still can't believe i spent $500 for this PoS 5900 Ultra not long ago. :fu:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/farcry30_10.html

9800xt still runnng at acceptable frame rate and even gained a few fps from 1.2 patch. The gayforceFX 5950U actually runs much slower with patch 1.2. than 1.1 :lame:

yeah the 5xxx series were duds.

I'm on 6800 now tho.. in Thief 3 it blows my Radeon away. Glad Nv is back in the game.
Now just make games look nice. you don't have make them faster then X800XT.. just nicer and smooth enough

I have a FX5900 XT and I am very happy with it's performance and vivo features. What some people seem to forget is that there are users like me who do more with their pc than just play games! :angel2:

Everyone considers the 5900 series a flop, why do they sell for so much on ebay and such? I mean you can get a 9700 pro for a little over $100. The 5900's are way more costly than their ATI counter parts although I just got a 5800NU for a buddy for $100 new in box.

I wouldn't call the 59xx cards a flop - but I won't comment on the 5800!

A flop.

...wait, a flop?

256 bit memory interface, outstanding AA performance, great OpenGL compatibility, uh, usually great overclockability... hm, yeah, those are dud features... sure...

...

If you're saying it was a dud because it wasn't quite the quantum leap that was expected, I understand. :p:p

Hey, they perform GREAT now. :) Pretty much feels exactly like 5900, and IMO that's not a bad thing.

Except the 5800 comes with a pair of ear plugs.

Ok the FX5800 series I won't argue, it was overpriced, under performed, overheated, overly loud, etc...

but the FX5900XT is one of the best deals going, you can't argue that. It's a steal at $175us, it gives your performance between that of a R9700Pro and a R9800Pro, and it's more than capable of running any game available well when paired with a good CPU. I have absolutely NO complaints about my FX5900XT. I also suspect I will be WELL prepaired for DoomIII when it arrives, as well as other new titles. So lets take it easy on the anti-FX feelings here people :p

On on another note, the FX5700 sell for about $135 and often overclock well. It makes a nice card for someone on a budget. We can't all afford to shell out $300 or more for a video card ;)

Not a big deal on the sound as it will be cooled with a pelt and water. The 6800GT I just got and the 6800Ultra that will be here tomorrow are the first NV cards I have owned since my Ti4200 (kick rectum card btw). I never had any probs with the 5XXX cards personally, but never experienced them either. I went right from a ti4200 to 9700 pro which kept me happy for a long time. Hopefully I made a good choice. The 5800 is for my buddy at work who is on a budget. I have some extra water blocks and his max was $100 for a video card. I figured the 5800 was better than a Ti4200 and the 9700pro was over 120. I wont go any lower on the ati scale. Hopefully it can push enough frames to keep him happy till he can get something else.

I do agree with you on the 5900XT, it was/is the only good price vs. performance FX card. The 5700 on the other hand cannot stand up to a Radeon 9600 pro which cost about the same.

I wouldnt call it a flop since it did outperform the Nv30 series by a great margin.Id say it was a disappointment for DX9 performance and AA.

My Son plays Dark Age of Camelot endlessly, with his 5900 Ultra. He has it set at 2x AA / 2x AF @1280x1024. He has specifically told me he IS NOT interested in any other video card. I made him try my old 9800 Pro, and ended up having to go back to the 5900 Ultra because of graphical errors (missing designs on robes, shields etc.). If your going for HL2 or Doom3 well then your going to need something new anyway (like what I have in my sig. below). The 5900 Ultra was not a flop, it just wasn't the fastest card on the market.

but the other stuff can be agreed upon :)

I really dont think you're gonna need a new graphic card for Doom 3. I dunno how "Dire" HL2 is gonna be ona 5900 series card though,

I believe 9800/9700 will bee plenty for half life 2 though, I mean I remember people making these arguments last year. "you need a 5900 for Doom 3."

Or you "need" a 9800/9700 for HL2, lets not jump the gun here, Each of these engines are designed for DX 8.0 class cards such as 8500/Geforce 4. Lets see how it performs before we decide what the ideal card is for these games.

I wouldn't call the AA oustanding

The AA performance isnt any different than my 6800, it was the AF that hurt the Nv3x series because it wasnt "adaptive" or angle dependent. The AA performance on my 5900/5700 was always good. And the performance hit on my 6800 Verses my 5900 with just pure Anti aliasing is pretty consistent.

I mean you know using the old OGMS method only gives a 1% increase in FPS compared to my 6800?

Outstanding to me, I guess... outstanding compared to the previous cards I used (GF2ti, GF3, GF4ti) ... yes I know what ATI's AA looks like in comparison, but still, to me it was VERY useable and benificial to the games I played... and I'm sure for SO MANY users, it was the first card they had that they actually tinkered with that AA and AF stuff, as I STILL know many gamers who shun such things in the name of FPS... :D

I don't say the 5900XT is a bad card but between a 9700 PRO and a 9800 PRO?
What are you on? Whatever it is i want it.
Even after a great OC a 5900XT wont even conme close to a 9700PRO.
I have a 9700PRO and i hat a 5900 Ultra for a very short time.
The 9700 PRO was the faster card all the time and in some cases is even faster than the 5950 U.

Wow compare an overclocked 5900XT with a stock 9700 PRO . WOOOHOO
How about compare it to my 9700 NONPRO at 400/340?

Another funny coincidence. All games are using simple graphics. No Pixel shader 2 of course. Funny isn't it?
How about FarCry maybe? *hint*

The 9800 PRO is 20 bucks more. I'd feel like an idiot after buying this POS really.
No i am no ATI fanboi. I'll buy a 6800 GT.
I just hate ppl let's say nvidiots that can't face the truth.
The FX line is FLAWED. Man the GF 6 is out. You can stop telling yourself the FX was a good card really!
