I was just reading the digi-life Leadtek review with HL2(beta) benchies

and saw this in the conclusion:
There are evidently no fundamental changes in the relation of forces between GeForce 6800 Ultra and RADEON X800 XT. The former's performance has increased in some places, and now it's difficult to say which of them is the leader. Surely, actual games are harder for NVIDIA, but we shouldn't forget that the company has the habit not to lay its cards on the table till a certain moment, so it definitely must have some reserves.

Now, if that dosen't wet your appitite for official ForceWare then you must own an ATI card ;)

That would be interesting but I think both company's knew they had fast cards on their hands but underestimated how the competitor's cards turned out. This is how we are seeing things like a X800XTPE card already when this card was probably supposed to have been saved as a refresh part at the end of the year.

With the slow launch of both sets of cards I believe they may be encountering yield issues by pushing their cards harder than expected but obviously this doesn't really apply to the software side of things. Nvidia is going through beta drivers faster than I remember for a new card launch so it will be interesting to see where both camps are at a few months from now in regards to performance.
