hmm.. i think i am gonna give it a try..

by the way.. what is truform?

How long have you had an ATi graphics card?

Truform is ATi's pretty much defunct technology to make objects look more like they have curves and not jagged edges. For example: In C&C Renegade at one part you are looking at what is suppose to be a globe, but it's morel ike a hexagon. With Truform enabled this hexagon looks like a decagon.

Though this technology is hardly used anymore due to games useing larger numbers of pixels.

Take a look at the animated gif about halfway down this page and see what Truform can do for UT2004. Take note of the head particularly. There are several links to other pics and instructions on how to enable Truform in UT2004 as well.

Hehe.

Well Truform also looks good in Morrowind but the game always took a toll on my PC when I had the game last year. With my new FX-53 system and X800XT PE I always wondered how I far I could crank the visuals up using the FPS optimizer program to increase the view distance and such. Too bad I traded the game in already!

OWA, TAA is not supposed to affect your fps at all. It is basically applying AA to alternate pixels every other frame so the final effect is double the AA, there is no more workload on the VPU. The only requirement is to have vsync enabled, I had to manually enable it on the 4.7 betas, don't know if that's necessary on the final 4.7s. If you don't have vsync enabled you will see artifacts when your frames drop below your refresh rate, but if you have vsync enabled the drivers will automatically disable TAA whenever your drop below it.
Okay, I'll double-check the vsync option. I'm sure I had it set to app control in the CP but I may have had it disabled in-game. Maybe that caused the issue. I basically stayed in the 20s with TAA on and I've never seen it hit the 20s in any of the testing I've done so far without it (using the benchemall map in Far Cry). Heh, actually, maybe I should just test it with a game that I get above 60 fps with and not worry about what happens in an unsupported condition (when you're below 60). :)

Edit: Any word on when application profiles will be implemented? TAA sounds look a good feature if I don't have to manually set it for the various games. I saw that ATI tray tools has a tweak for TAA but I haven't seen if I could associate it with a game profile or not.

Well, that' just a screenie, and I was just saying that the use of Truform was most noticable there when the head goes from a triangle to round. I'm no pro UT2004 player, but the game plays fine for me w/ truform & 16x AF and looks significantly better than just using AA. If I can increase the IQ and keep the fps @ an acceptable level then I'll usually do it. To each is own I guess. :)

A valid point. This is true, if you're standing still zooming in w/lightning gun or sniper rifle then you do tend to notice the details of the models more.

I like to get people when they're standing still trying to heal a power node. Sitting ducks I tell ya. :)

For Truform? Yes as the hardware support that the 8500 based cards has is gone so its done via software now = sssslllloooowwwweeeerrrr

I still got my copy of UT2K4 - I traded in my copy of Morrowind.

Did you notice that they removed the option to smooth windows streaming media. They were in the 4.7 beta but now are gone!?!?

Yea, and I am glad. I had garbled junk every time I played a WMV file, that that turned out to be the culprit. :bash:

Hope the Omega's come out pretty soon. At the earliest, they should be here on monday, but that's wild speculation.

Normally yes. I get better perf on my 9800P w/ them consistently.
