View Full Version : SWG Performance on a 6800U

For those of you that play Star Wars Galaxies, here is a performance review on a 6800 Ultra. I do not play this game, but it is an extremely demanding game with all the options maxed, so I decided to give it a whirl.

The performance isn't great..hehe.. but my friend still wished to know my performance, so I used his account and played for a bit :) Here goes nothin:

Stock Clocks 425/1.1

Its kinda strange because when I'm in the city, the fps can dip pretty low... sometimes as low as 13fps, but when I'm in the forest/or jungle, it runs amazing... 29fps it is usually locked at.

I played SWG for a while. Crappy game with a crappy engine. It's not like it would look that good compared to what hardware it needs to run smooth.

I played swg for a year from launch until the bugs finally put me off for good - and you're right, it's hardcapped at 30fps. If you want to see the most demanding place visitable you should visit coronet in corellia during peak gaming hours... I never got a chance to play the game on this fx53 system but I'm sure even this would have been feeling the pinch in this area. Also, enabling shadows makes for some great effects but seems to be the biggest fps killer out of all the graphical options in this game.

SWG is an example of an OK engine with very bad coding. Terrible lag, especially in cities. When I played, it was mostly hunting on the outskirts.

I'm curious as to how an x800xt plays it... I know an x800 Pro lags worse than the 6800U. I am also curious as to whether or not a faster CPU would make a big difference.

Turning on dynamic shadows is what really kills the fps. Dynamic as in changing to the position of the sun, etc. I wonder if that is all CPU based?

OT alert:

Whats with all the characters in some of those screenshots shouting sales pitches about the stuff they have to sell or buy? It looks like its a non-stop used car commercial. I haven't ever played SWG, and don't knock anyone for their choice in games, but all those dudes shouting about their stuff for sale would get very old very quickly.

Yeah I played SWG 14 day trial version and I find the game slow, bad coding and the graphics looked very outdated, it no matched to KOTOR. I am glad I played the trial, it will be waste of money to buy the full game and pay subscription monthly. :)

Yea, I'm not really much of a fan of MMORPG's either... a little too slow for my tastes :) But this is a pretty popular game for those fans of MMORPG's

What's your FPS standing infront of the coronet starport at 1600x1200 no aa or af? It's was a slideshow with my ti4200... lol...now that my account is cancelled i won't be testing it with my 6800gt.

thx for the benchmark jakUp (even tho i dont play SWG) :)
i cant wait to see the screens guildwars will show on the new cards :D the glow effect in that game has been perfectly done.
