I was wondering if its possible to remove the stock heatsink/fan combo from BFG cards, maybe throw some Arctic Silver on the chip? Replace the fan with something faster, bigger? Are there any third party heatsinks that will work with 6800 line of cards?

I think BFG already uses AS. I am waiting on the dangerden water cooling myself.

My XFX came with a compound that appeared to be AS also. I cleaned it off and put on AS5.
The whole fan assembly will come off by removing the 3 phillips screws on the bottom side. Then there are 4 screws with springs on top that hold the HS on to the black pc. on the back. Should only take 10 minutes if you want to replace the thermal compound. There would be no way for manuf. to know that you did this if you are worried about warr. issues. What's funny is that the screws on the top pc. of the fan assembly have silicone or something in them that would show if you take them out but you don't need to ever remove them.

How about replacing the fan? Bad idea or higher OC'ing?
