I tried this and it fixed the stuttering in some games with the 61.71s and gave me a small performance boost in Far Cry:

I cleared all the left over drivers off my system with DC 3 after uninstalling the 61.36s. I then installed 61.21 from my BFG CD. After rebooting I unpacked the 61.71's and manually pointed my system at the inf file by selecting 'driver update' under my device manager. I updated them right over the BFG 61.21's. No stutter now and about 4 FPS better in Far Cry.

I know it goes against the general rule of thumb but I almost always install over the previous. It always seems to work out better for me (less issues, not as much trouble to do, etc.).

I will try that cause I hate what's going on with FarCry. Can't play the most beautiful game with the sexiest card available...Damn :(

Don't worry wEEt, the 1.2 patch will make the game run much better on your system :) But probably worse on mine :( lol

For the record, I also use 61.71. They are the best drivers by far (at least on my system).

Its dated older than 61.71. Plus I heard many people having problems with it so I decided to leave it be. I'll wait till nVidia releases another official set before I change :)

I had weird texture corruption with the 61.71s in 3DM03. This happened under certain circumstances, after some usage of the PC, ie after 5 ours of UT. I tested with the 61.21s, it doesn't do it. I also suspected some bad memory chips, but I tested the Dria map in UT2004 - which is huge - 1600x1200 with max detail, 8xSAA/16xAF, with no problems. I think its a driver issue, so I'm back to the 61.21s.

That sounds like a overheating problem not a driver problem the 61.71 driver most likely put your card under more strain than the 61.21 drivers

The reason you have less issues doing it that way is because alot of the older files and settings are kept intact. Certain settings might be the same way they were in the old drivers instead of the way they are by default in the new.

You should always run Driver Cleaner and Cab Cleaner in Safe Mode before installing any new drivers.

I know I'm a retard. I've never run driver cleaner or cab cleaner. Who makes it?

You can get it over at Driverheaven:

Personally I clean my drivers but not my cab.
