This is a bench from the entire Carrier level of Far Cry, my cpu is just at default, ram timings 2-2-2-6, and card at 400/550. This is what came up with the settings in the subject line with all settings at very high/ultra high. I did have trilinear opts on<.

Frames: 15723 - Time: 351312ms - Avg: 44.755 - Min: 24 - Max: 97
I would suggest some of you other guys try it. This is the 61.71 drivers installed over top of the 61.21s.
No it's not playable sorry I don't actually think you have af or aa enabled. Make sure both of them get enabled in the far cry config file otherwise it don't work.

Its on, go look at the screenshot thread, the last two of mine are from the Bunker level with 8xS. I have it set in the game as "High" AA and in the system.cfg as "8".
r_FSAA = "1"
r_FSAA_samples = "8"
Copy paste from my sys cfg ^
EDIT: I am all Far Cried out for now but I do it again with screens later or tomorrow. I was very shocked myself, hence the post. I was careful to pay attention to see that it was on. I always set application pref and what I wish in my system cfg. I did hear some time ago that nVidia reduced overhead for that AA mode specifically. The card is at 400/550 or default 'ultra' settings. AF is set the same way, through the cfg with '16' input.
I spose your mem and cpu give you a clear boost over whatever banko is getting in terms of frame rate...
the fps certainly does look playable...
/me goes to take a look @ screenies...

That 24 FPS was the explosion, right?
This is quite scary even with Trilinear optimizations on.

No actually the explosions don't phase this card its depth of field and lots of detail/angles at once.
Ok once again, save quality reduced by 50%, 1600x1200, 8xSAA/16xAF set in the system.cfg file of Far Cry. CPU default with 2-2-2-6, and card at 400/550. All game settings very high/ultra high, tri opts on.

If you were posting these shots 4 months ago , i wouldent believe it :p
Now i say .. dayumm .. those shots looks highly detailed with some soomth framerate . i wonder how its going to be when you apply patch 1.2 to it !!
i wouldent imagine the 6800 can a produce such performance in the settings you mentioned (from most benchmarks i read) , but if this is correct .. the 6800 series will be a clear leader in FarCry .
So you got more than 24 FPS with the explosion at these settings? Wow That's very amazing.

BTW before I off to bed,
In my Far Cry\Bin32 I have the d3d9.dll-3DA Direct3D Wrapper by ToMMTi-Systems. So I am not on the FX path but the standard DX9 one that some call the 'R300' path. So I have no shader replacements or optimizations geared towards the FX in play. In addition I do not have the shaders1.pak installed in my FCData folder.

Malficar, every time you start up the game a new system.cfg file is created to overwrite the old one. Nothing is changed when editing this file since a new one is generated by the game. The only way to enable 8xSAA is through the driver CP.

Yea, I think anzak is right. Those shots do look nice, but at 8S 16AF all reviews show that the 6800U chokes in a lot of games and those frames seem a little high for those settings. Also it doesnt look like Ultra water is enabled?
Far Cry at 1600x1200 with 8xSAA is not playable.
This shot was from the last time my GT rendered Far Cry
6800GT @ 420/1.12 Far Cry @ 1600x1200 with 8xSAA in the CP and 4xAF in game.

your shots of 4xAA are awesome no doubt but it's not 8xSAA which runs at 7-10fps.
Another great shot with 8xSAA:

I went back and tried it your way forcing it through the CP. I ran the whole level. Same result.

I think it's set at 4xAA. It doesn't look like 8x and your frams are too high.
A few simple keystrokes at the console will prove Malficar right and doubters wrong (or not).
Malficar, enter the following into your console and see what you get (see this post of mine as an example (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=366445#post366445)...look at the 2nd sshot and just enter those commands at console. This will tell you, definitively, what the AA and AF settings are in the game while you're playing it.

*chuckles* I was just about to post this Clay:
Here's another way to make sure you have 8xSAA applied, if you are uncertain, besides the obvious FPS hit.
You already have the -DevMode arg in your short cut to Far Cry, and you have and active DevModeLUA file. Open your system.cfg and set the value r_FSAA = "1", then do r_FSAA_samples = "2". Save, close the file and start your game via the desktop short cut.
When you enter the game check the CP for AA settings. It will be greyed out but it will say "Low" because you have set 2xAA in the CFG. Now start whatever level you wish.
Open the console with the ~ tilde, type this exactly \r_FSAA_samples 8 then enter. It will then show you it has applied with feedback. Exit the game and go check your system.fg. It will read r_FSAA_samples = "8".

The only thing I have varied is res, either 1280x960, or 1600x1200.

This just goes to show, just because you may know how to do something, it does not mean it can't be done. Far Cry's system.cfg can be manually controlled from without the game and within.

The 61.71 driver support both trilinear and anisotropic opts that can be turned on, mine are. In addition my system.cfg for Far Cry is not standard. I have some things turned off or down that effect performance but do not really readily degrade the gaming experience visually.
I strongly suggest you read the tweak guide and try lowering some things that may be slowing your card down that you do not care about.
If you have an ATI card I can tell you one thing that will not only net you a much higher frame rate it will kill the tree bug on the 'boat' level. Simply set your shadows to medium in the game CP.

I've got a 5600. 6800 arrives today. Unless that system config can perform miracles I think I'll wait it out.

Malfi's numbers are very impressive. I know my XT does not like 8xAA mode, the sound even stutters a bit sometimes when I set it to that.
