no sound

hi i just installed windows xp professional and i got my cousin to get my nvidia graphics working probaly and thats good but there is no sound on what ever sound file i open, does anyone know whats the proplem

You need sound drivers, otherwise it will just beep. I don't think XP ships with default sound drivers.
