I just ordered a BFG 6800GT OC card which I will be testing against my X800XT PE card that I have been running for the last two weeks. Just wanted to ask a few questions.

Does the 6800GT OC have the same memory as the 6800ultra?
What clock speeds do the Ultra run at and has the GT OC been successfully run at those speeds and remained stable?
If the GT OC can run at the ultra speeds why does the GT OC require 1 power connector rather than the 2 connectors needed by the ultra?

Other than that I would like to hear other peoples opinions/experiences with this card. I am pretty excited to be getting this card, I have 2 PC's and always try to have at least 1 Flagship ATI card and 1 Flagship Nvidia Card, In this case i know the GT isn't the top of the line Nvidia card right now but I have seen where many people are getting ultra performance from the much less expensive GT cards.

Also can the GT be flashed to the Ultra Bios like the FX5900 could be flashed to be a 5950Ultra? and If so is there any Cons to doing this? The only reason I ask is that I like the idea of the clocks being set via Bios rather than Overclocking via Software.

Q: Does the 6800GT OC have the same memory as the 6800ultra?
A: The Ultra has 1.6ns GDDR3 while the GT has 2.0ns GDDR3

Q: What clock speeds do the Ultra run at and has the GT OC been successfully run at those speeds and remained stable?
A: Most if not all GTs will run stable at Ultra clockspeeds of 400/425MHz core, 1100MHz memory

Q: If the GT OC can run at the ultra speeds why does the GT OC require 1 power connector rather than the 2 connectors needed by the ultra?
A: I would assume it is because when the GT runs at Ultra speeds it has little headroom when compared to the Ultra, which will overclock more. The Ultra BIOS may also draw a little more power which merits the extra molex.

Q: Also can the GT be flashed to the Ultra Bios like the FX5900 could be flashed to be a 5950Ultra?
A: Probably, yes it could. I don't think anyone has ventured to this though.

I have a BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra and I LOVE it! It runs everything like butter with everything maxed. I like it so much in fact that I have ordered a BFG GeForce 6800 GT for my other PC (which my brother uses) so that he can have the same gaming experience.

Thanks for the reply, made me feel alot better about my purchase. If the GT uses 2.0 Ram rather than 1.6, are there any issues with this when running at Ultra speeds, does it have that big of an impact?

No, my GT OC at Ultra speed runs about the same as the ultra at stock. My ultra clocks up to 461 using coolbits detect optimal settings which is out of reach for the GT. The GT only goes up to about 415 as far as I have tested.

Seems like this card has great Overclocking Potential. Are you experiencing any troubles with heat? what is the threshold temp on these cards? My X800XT PE card runs around 45-48c Idle and 55-60c under load. ATI Claims the threshold to be 100c for the X800's so I am in good shape there.

Threshold for my BFG Ultra OC is 135C

I think I've only seen one GT user in here that said they couldn't get Ultra speeds.....so that sounds like damn good odds to me....
Personally my GT will max at 430 \ 1150 (liquid cooled) but I use 420 \ 1100 for everyday use.
Now if I can only only get it to run right in games  .....Ok, that's a whole other post..

You may want to check out these two threads. The first is specific to the 6800GT's OC'ing results. The 2nd is combo of GT and Ultra OC results.
