I was just reading the GT review over at Gamers Depot

The review is dated yesterday and they mention:

"we have been told by NVIDIA that WHQL certification of its current build should come out sometime this week"

Could this be the official drivers we have been waiting for? Anyone know which build this is and have any clue when it might be showing up?

Most of us think that the FarCry 1.2 patch will not be released until DX 9.0c is officially released by Microsoft (as a standalone package). Seems reasonable, since the patch requires DX 9.0c to get its benefits. But no one seems to know for sure.

I hope nVidia doesn't play the same game and wait for XP SP2 to release their drivers! XP SP2 got pushed back until about mid August.

That's only true of the SM3.0 features, right? There are other fixes and optimisations as well that are not DX9.0c-based. So they could (should) release the patch whenever it is done so people can at least enjoy some of its benefits!

Well, that's my opinion anyway. It could wreak havoc on their marketing ideas for the patch though, which has been touted mainly for its SM3.0. People who aren't in the know may begin to complain that SM3.0 doesn't work and that would be un-needed bad press i suppose.

True, it seems there is a lot more to patch 1.2 than just SM 3.0. I can see how they would release the patch and just take the stance of being able to support SM 3 when DX9.0C releases. That way it looks like they are ahead of the game.

good points npras42.

Ricks I don't believe there will be any reason for nVidia to wait for XP SP2's release. They may wait for DX 9.0c standalone package, but thats separate from SP2 and hopefully it will arrive earlier. SP2 is mainly Windows XP bugfixes and is not needed at all for DX 9.0c to work. I have already proven this by installing DX 9.0c on Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows 2003 server, with no issues.

Right, but is MS going to release 9.0C prior to SP2? I always got the impression that the two were to be released together as a package and then it would be available seperately, after the SP2 release.

Now that I don't know. I would imagine DX 9.0c would come first, but thats just a guess. I think it would take less time to complete DX 9.0c than it would SP2.

As would I. Not having it is also holding up "official" SM 3.0 support, which I am sure nVidia is applying pressure to MS to get going.

The pressure is on! Hurry it up Micro$oft, lol.

The 1.2 patch fixed many, many other game issues unrelated to SM3.0.

Nvidia is applying pressure to microsoft? No disrespect, but that is like the Republic of the Maldives applying pressure to the United States to change some political policy. You don't apply pressure to the 800lb gorilla :)

True. I should have said "Seems reasonable, since the patch requires DX 9.0c to get its full benefits." ;)

Personally I don't care when the new drivers come out. The 61.71 set are ROCK solid for me with no issues! If performance increases with a new set, that would be nice though...

61.71 are great. However I am having 1 issue, that has been around ever since I first started using DX 9.0c beta. That is this; If I run DXdiag (or any directx game) with driver set to 'High Performance' with any level of Anisotropic Filtering (besides off), the test or game will crash. Although this is most likely a DirectX issue but I'm not positive about that. My friend has the same exact issue with his 5700U, 61.71, and DX 9.0c.

Let's see what happens. I don't think it's true :(

They were for me too. If they didn`t still have the Joint Ops gof sky bug, I would use em. Sure hope if nVidia ever gets a new Official release out, that this bug is fixed.

So, what version are you using? It seems the 61.36WHQL drivers are the drivers people are having the best luck with. Though many do seem to like the 61.71s. I am still not sure which one I will use with my BFG 6800GT. It seems like the WHQL version might be safer in terms of reliability and compatibility... maybe?
