I am a nooby to Linux. I have a problem with the Nvidia driver updates. I am trying to install them in Mandrake 8.1. I have installed what I am guessing is the right kernel and GL. I couldn't get the sh.Xinstall to run. The Xfree says it has the version I just installed. If I install my Gforce 4, it locks up, and the Gforce 4 is not in the list. I am using 4.1.0 (couldn't use the 3D version). HELP!!!!!

XFree86 version 4.1.0 should work just fine with the drivers, you don't need to upgrade to 4.2.0 or 4.2.1.

There's an NVchooser script on the driver download page. If you download and run it (sh NVchooser.sh from the directory you saved it to will accomplish that), it will print out which driver files you need to download. These will be correct up to the nVidia revision (i.e. you can substitute 3123 for 2960, or whatever, if you want). That might be what you need.
