I know some radical neo-cons have at various points made the assertion "prove to me these people who were abused were in fact not terrorists and killing people and the like"

well... finally i can :)

case 1: the guy in the picture with the dog in his face looking absolutely mortified...

name == Haqi Ismail Abdul-Hamid
charge == simple assault (he verbally abused iraqi police and coalition members, it was claimed he had kicked and threatened coalition officials)
abuse == interrogators sicced unmuzzled dogs on him...

prison officials later concluded he has mental disabilities and released him...

case 2 : the top person from the human pyramid

name == Yasir Ashur Nayaf al-Duleimi
charge == car-thief
abuse == ordered to perform sexual acts with another prisoner, paraded naked, doused with cold water every night, forced into naked pile-ups such as the one shown in the now famous picture...

case 3 : the guy on top of the box with wires attached to his genitals...

name == Satar jabar
charge == car-thief
abuse == forced into "stress positions" and threatened with electrocution of genitals... picture referred to as "the Statue of Liberty" by iraqi's...

case 4 : the naked guy being dragged around on a leash by Audie England

name == Wasam Muhammad Athab
charge == car thief
abuse == paraded round naked, dragged on a dog leash...

summary of the 26 people who were purpotedly in the abu grahib prison abuse pictures...

13 of them were there for offenses ranging from car thefts (car-jackings) to rape... the other 13 were there initially picked up as terrorists but later released without any charges...

further there are reports of women in a similar situation who was apparently photographed in pornographic situations... one claiming to have been raped and impregnated by some soliders and calling on the iraqi resistance (I am paraphrasing here) to "please kill all of us"... this woman was there for being an accused prostitute...

total of 32 prisoners deaths are being investigated... most of them at abu grahib... including the one man who was on ice in a picture with Sabrina Harmon(one of the soldiers) smiling over his dead and battered body... his name was Munadil al-Jumaily who died from a cerebral hemorrage and contusion... newsweek did not release details of what he was there for...

his family found out about this till his 12 year old son saw a picture in an iraqi news-paper after the prison abuse scandal broke...

all information from latest issue of Newsweek and accompanied by pictures and accounts of the investigation currently being carried out

there are other accounts as well of abuses undertaken on accused thieves and the like that I have not included for now... :) enough typing already...

feel free to discuss

I hardly see how scaring the crap out of somebody but putting them in no danger is abuse. I've done that as a prank on more than one occasion :D

I wish somebody would that to the guy who stole my dads benz. That would have been funny as hell.

Same as above :D

Don't see any harm in this either.

Rapists got raped? Who would have seen that coming? :D

Was there any mention of who actually did the killings? I don't recall any coalition soldiers being tried for murder.

hmm... given how radical neo-cons have been asserting that only terrorists were being abused and there was nothing wrong with that it sure takes very little for one to change his tune...

whats the current popular term for this?

2 come to mind... something about goal-posts and something wrt an unhealthy infatuation to cows...

spin away laddie :)

That is so amazingly f*#ked up. With power comes resposability and these people clearly where not trained enough to have power

Well I am not a neo-con, and I never said this. :D

You just love it when there is failure don't you? You just love to bring this up ever few days. I already made my points on this. We already said this was bad but not torture and the more you push it the less I care.

UDawg, you bit the worm man by replying. ;)

Sure we've been over this crap before. Bottom line has already been stated.

whether you care or not is besides the point...

routinely the argument has been made that these people in the photographs deserved the treatment that was meted out to them because they were terrorists... now we find out they were in fact no more than petty criminals at best...

btw no... the conservatives on this board did not say this was bad... there were condemnations initially that generally turned to approval coz "all these guys were terrorists"

that approval is what pissed the hell out of me and as you can see... it was with good reason...

no human beings should be treated this way... we get mad @ others for dastardly acts but we can't hold ourselves above the law...

the pentagon continues to drag its feet on the issue and still has no answers for why it took over 2 months for ANY actions to be taken wrt the prison abuse incidents...

just a few quotes...

If it saved American lives, oh well. The more the left makes out of Abu the less I care how they were treated

get me a catapult, iraqi inmates and some patriot missiles and I can make skeet shooting a whole lot more fun

I couldn't care less about the terrorist prisoners. I'm glad we tortured their sorry asses. If we got one shred of info it was all worth it.

Yes Sazar because you know every single detail of the prison don't you. How do you know those who were put in the naked pyramid were not just terrorists and murderers. You don't. however you seem to like thinking that the US is baaad.

Your rhetoric gets worse by the day.

They released a bunch yes but they did not say who was released and did not say if those were the same terrorists that were released. You really don't have a point here.

Go to Iraq then Drumphil. Teach the US Generals your carebear method of waging war. War is hell. Nasty tactics have to be employed when dealing with a nasty adversary. If you don't understand this then you are very naive. What if Australia were to be nuked and the only man who could stop it had to be tortured to do so. Would you condone it? Or would your liberal heart bleed for the poor terrorist while your family got incinerated.

No one on this board knows *anything* about Abu Graib or the prisoners there other than what the media has fed us. The sooner you realize this the better.

and thats just from one thread where the leaked elements of taguba's report were dismissed...

So the car thieves had a some dogs barking at them and scared them. Boohoo. That is no huge deal (ie, torture), IMO.

The naked men piled together is a bit worse, but still not torture. Those that abused them in this way should be punished. I don't know what else to say on this issue.

I changed my position because the media and you guys all keep throwing this around and making a huge issue out of it. I lost sympathy because of the political games you guys were playing with it and then you had the beheadings that really didn't get much attention. So yeah my position now is WOOOOPIIIIIEEE! so they got buck nEkid and were told to get giggy with it. Yeeeahhaw. You can see the same thing in San Francisco on any given nite.

/Still waiting for the endless posts about Nick Berg's head being SAWED off.

I do think this would have been much more horrible if we find out that Petrolium Jelly was not used. That I WILL NOT STAND FOR!

the pentagon continues to drag its feet on the issue and still has no answers for why it took over 2 months for ANY actions to be taken wrt the prison abuse incidents...

Action was taken with in 3 days. What more do you want? Oh I know Bush out of office and into a orange jump suit bowing to the east with a dust buster in his rectum while Akbar sings the national anthem in arabic.

I never see the left post anything good about America. I wont hold my breath either.

I dare say that sexual abuse is torture... and we all know that if that happened to Americans (or American soldiers) you guys would demand blood.

No, I still don't think that was torture. Abuse, yes. Torture, no.

Your last statement is probably true, up to a point.

No, but the one of the reasons Americans rebelled against the British was because of their fondness for 'cruel and unusual' punishment.

Interestingly enough, torture goes against everything that this country was founded under...

Well, I don't call anything here cruel (unusual maybe, but certainly not out of this world.) And we didn't exactly steal cars from the british in those days :D

Why is abu ghraib still even an issue anyways? It has been long since dealt with. Give it a rest already.

what happened to nicholas berg has been condemned by all parties on this board afaik... I don't think there is anyone going round saying "if those terrorists got what they needed from him than I don't care if his head was sawed off"

from all accounts I have seen (again... in newsweek/time and other publications reports) the first references to abuses in abu grahib were submitted in november... the earliest inkling any action was taken was sometime in january... that is more than 3 days per the calendar I look @...
