My 6800 gt hits 79C core and 49C ambient full load playing Halo. Hits about 71C during ut2k4....whenever I play FarCry the temp thingy dissapears on my second monitor for some reason, so I cant see how hot it gets during that game (and i dont think i wanna know) And this is @ stock..no ocing. I have a few questions.

1.) Are these safe temps?

2.) Is it safe to put two 80mm fans ontop of the card blowing air directly on it. I know it would probably cool it off a bit, but would I risk frying the card? Not sure if it's safe to leave two fans literally sitting ontop of the card...but then again, their plastic, so I dont see why there would be harm..but I want to make sure.

3.) If temps hit 79C during Halo, I dont want to think about how hot doom 3 will run...pushing the card further means hotter temps right?

At idle im 52C core 33c ambient...I've heard these cards run warm, but can they take the heat? My old x800 pro never hit above 72C and that was with a oc.

depending on if i have my window AC running, my GT idles around 54c, otherwise it idles around 57c. full load it gets up to 83c

82C is about the highest I've seen with mine. It's idles around 57C.

I'm using 410/1.10 currently. I think I was using 410/1.13 when I got the 82C. 78C seems to be the norm now that I'm using 410/1.10.

My 6800GT at stock speeds: idle 40c, full load, around 58c. Limited to 390mhz core for max OC without Artifacts.

my 6800

Mine idles at around 70 and I've seen it get to 82 after a few minutes of Far Cry.

ok, so it seems 75-85C full load is the norm. I was starting to think I had a bad card. Noko, you have a nice full load temp. Musy be that cooling =)

So is it safe to put 2 80mm fans on the card, or is it risky? (Actually, looking at how long this card is..I think I could fit 3)

I'm not sure at how hot is gets at full load, but I think it's to hot at idle. 62C! My 5800 was about 42C at idle. That's a huge difference.

Yeah, I have a dedicated A/C unit blowing into my case, actually blowing right over my BGH 6800GT. In the summer months the air cycles between 6c-15c, winter I can go down to below freezing.

BFG 6800 Ultra OC

Idle: 53-56c (Depending on how long its been on, and which drivers, 61.72 seemed to increase my idle from 53 to 56 and load from 63 to 66, was using 61.21 before)
Ambient: 33-38c

Been tested with:
Soldiers Heroes of World War II
Gunbound :P
Thief III
3dmark03 (Useless but I got 12092 with 61.21 and 12192 with 61.72, I dont much like synthetic benchmarks)
Pirates of the Caribbean

temps drop rapidly after the load is taken off.. so if you don't do realtiem monitering, you may be off by over 10C

i let ut2k4 spectate a botmatch for 30 mins in a window, so i can see the temps real time.. the highest i could get it to was about 72C

then I ran rthdribl_1_2, after 20 mins it reached 90C and after 20 mins after that it was still 90C.. This demo really stresses your card to the max..

you got better cooling than me.. whats your ambient temp's and setup?

Unfortunantl,y I'm stuck with this Dell 8300 case.. There is a exhaust fan model that Dell used to use that flows a whopping 130 cfm, but they stopped using it cause it was too loud and got too many complaints... The current fan flows about 50-60 cfm.. I may consider trying to find the older louder but more powerful fan..
