Recieved my 6800 Ultra Golden Sample today and it seems they forget to put the "gold" in this one (bur)
Can't run stable in "golden" speed, 430/1200, get artifacts, hangs, reboots, in Farcry/Hitman.
seems to be the memory that can't handle 1200, lowering to 1100 seems to be stable.
How much difference in performance is memory clock 1100 vs 1200 ?

Most of the other games i tested works flawless, according to Riva HW monitor temperatures idle 54C-56C, load 68C-75C.
Even 3Dmark (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2786220) works @ 430/1200.

Tried the "Identify optimal frequensies" the result was 461/922.

The Gainward overclock tool (ExperTool) seems to be uncompatible with coolbits, whenever you open the Nvidia controlpanel the clock restores to 300/1100, so i removed coolbits.

I mailed Gainward support still waiting for an answer.

It's alot of trouble RMA'ing a board and doom3 is coming...
but as the quickstart guide says about the golden mode setting: "Guaranteed to work in any system with any golden sample display adapter from Gainward", so i guess i send this board back :(

Sorry - I missed that you posted your temperature readings.

I get the same symptoms :-(

Have you tried pressing the button to reset the clock frequencys to standard value (in NVIDIA settings, not EXPERTool)? When I do that I get 300 Mhz for the GPU ang 600 Mhz for the momory.
Could that be a BIOS bug?

Yes i got the same, 300/600 in NV's Restore setting
could be a bios bug, i don't know...
Do you also have problems in Farcry/Hitman @ 430/1200 ?

No problems in Far Cry.

I think I have found a potiential cause for our problems.

According to the driver the BIOS version is 5.40.02.05.10

The problem is that on the back of the card there is a sticker saying BIOS version 5.40.02.10.14.

This is also not ok:

Hi guys

Same Prob here in Germany :-(

Got my GS directly from Gainward (today) works great even at 430/1200, BUT only with Expert-Tool or Coolbits forced!

If i press default, it`s 300/600 ?!? My Bios is the same as yours...

Could we perhaps just flash a PNY or Leadtek,,,for example?!?

Greetings

Sven

EDIT:

I just noticed: We all 3 have Antec PSU`s (Me 550 TP) :-( ?!?

Nice finding, i bet they flashed the wrong bios version :screwy:

Made some more test using the rthdribl Demo (http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/) and Riva turner HW monitor
After a while pressing L key a couple of times the core throttles down from 400 to 300 and the comp hangs a while,
if i'm lucky the demo continues with 300 core, if not comp reboots, and the last time i tested i got BSOD :fu:
This card is going back that's for sure.

Damn this is really discouraging as this is the card i ordered. Have you contacted gainward support? The german site has a forum also, the bios contradiction is interesting and the sooner gainward knows theres a problem the better for all. The first three owners Ive seen of these cards and the three are screwed up.. How sad. sorry you guys are haveing problems you should all call gainward and raise a little hell.

Man, i hope someone could help us :-(

Perhaps we could flash a PNY Bios instead the GW?

Or perhaps GW will send us a new one....

I really hope that Gainward will provide us with the correct BIOS.

I don't want to be forced to RMA it...

Found another game, Black Hawk Down, with a 100% failure (artifacts in windows). running att ultra speeds 400/1100.
Put back my good old fx5800, a bit louder but atleast it works...
Will return the 6800u gs on monday, hope i get a refund so i can buy another brand, don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for a RMA.
I thought Gainward was known for high quality but i guess not.
Hope they put up a new bios version so you can enjoy your working boards.

Hi

Well, i tried everything

-2 PSU`s (Antec 550W,Enermax 550W)
-Bios Settings (AGP Aperture, Timings and so on...)
-A LOT of Forceware...
-A LOT of settings in Forceware...

but this POS keeps crashing, restarting and BSOD`ing me.

@ default or at 430/1200, doesn`t make a diffrence.

Especially Joint Ops, Kreed and sometimes other games crash. (Strange but BF:V didn`t crash once!?!)

Well thats it for me. Had ATI before, will have ATI again.

And you all can really believe me i know what i`m doing. I`m a PC/Network Service guy here in Germany, and i am really well trained in all that stuff for many years.

But this card is really ****ed up. And it seems that ALL GW 6800 Ultra GS behave the same (from what i read here?)

It`s going to be RMA`d on Monday.

Good Luck to all you other buyers....

Nutty P.

Hi

Good News: I Fixed it

I flashed the bios from the Leatek 6800 Ultra (of course i saved the old one) and i am now off testing...

Tomorrow, if everything is fine (as it seems at the moment) i will give you an instruction if ya like.

You can still rma after the flash, cause your old bios can be restored!

Could you email me the bios you're using? I'd like compare it to the version I'm currently running. Thanks. email address deleted.

Did you flash with the leadtek wfflash utility? The board ID that the bios expects is 4032 and my evga is 4008.

Hi

No, i used NVFlash 4.42 (4.46 is making trouble for some)

first

nvflash -b original.rom (to be safe)

then...

nvflash -f XXX.rom -2 -p -u

and Voila !

Have fun!
