Yeah I agree much more now too. (yeah yeah Saz, I know, you told me so)
Cards on the x-axis are great for feature set comparisons (6800, 6800GT, etc). Thanks for the feedback guys.

So much for my experimentation. :) I thought reading left-to-right was not much different than top-to-bottom. I showed many people this before I posted and no one had trouble reading these. Oh well. I guess the left-to-right is just best for product feature comparison charts though. Thanks again for feedback.

clay... perhaps a little too much color?

maybe if you changed just the color of the cells rather than the text or just the text instead of the color of the cell it would be easier to read...

as is though I like the varied colors of the clusters of cells @ different resolutions

Yeah I was thinking that too...looking way too busy. I've got one with just black text and that looks a lot cleaner. Thanks :afro:

lol.. you will hate me :D

but how bout a min and max color? ie using the red and blue you have been doing this far... or just a max color?

looks nice btw :)

all this hard work gonna pay off

No no :) I appreciate the feedback. I'm so sick of bargraphs and they can be very misleading if not used correctly..they also can get easily crowded.

yeah sounds good. this pure b/w is too much ..I'll get a good balance eventually :)

Need a min and max figuresd highlighted ;)

Clay
07-19-04, 01:28 AM
ok, I was kinda hoping to not bother with highlighting MIN values but I know it's important as well.

the first and the last one are the two that look the best IMO.. probably coz there is the least amount of color..

try another variation for size...

try formats 1 and 3 with this setup...

keep the resolution column colors the same... ie light for 10x7 and darker for 16x12... for both of them... instead of increasing the gray/scale gradient throughout...

btw... once again.. excellent work clay

/me feels sorry he has to go to bed soon :(

I'll try and whip something up as well... I had one done yesterday but didn't save it... in hindsight that was boneheaded... woulda been easier to show you and have you beat it round to clean up my messy work :D

I like the bottom format. dunno why..ah yes i hate yellow :D how about coloured blocks and red fonts for the min and max etc?

Clay
07-19-04, 02:08 AM
Thanks again guys. :) Hey Kal, instead of red, how bout me just bolding those that are the best score? Also, I decided to just indicate the "best" in each column one time (i.e. whenever there is a tie with multiple scores).

Yeah, blue goes better with site color scheme :)

Saz, I agree with your idea about the columns...will just do two shades next (light for 1024 and darker for 1600)

Yeah, any feedback is great. Most might think this is all kinda silly and splitting hairs but I think it's important to convey the data in the best way possible.

Bolding could work :D

Yep the first & third ones looks good , however ( & theres always however lol ) .. i prefer if the gray scale gets darker as the settings raise up :

1024 ,no AA/AF (lightest)
1024,4xAA/8xAF(light)
1600,no AA/AF (dark)
1600,4xAA/8xAF(darkest)

this way the darker it looks , the higher the settings ;)

very good work Clay :)

yah sh64.. but whenever making tabulations of data you are trying to keep the focus on the numbers themselves... the labels and numbers are primary... you move the focus of the reader to the area you want... highlighting min/max as clay did is an excellent idea and I am glad he has stuck to it :D

the reason you try not to have too much color (effectively busy-ness) in a table is it clutters things... nice and simple and to the point while still being fresh I think is what clay was trying to do (or it seems in my puny little mind :D)

having the resolutions tables similar colors will keep focus on compares on those things individually (ie comparing differences in similar resolutions) and the bolding/color changes for min/avg's will keep focus on pertinent data..

clay has already included an excellent tool to keep separation between the ati card and the nvidia card variations by using a thick line ( ) and thereby keeps the focus separated between the items of data presented :)

btw clay... if its worth anything my gf thinks table 3 looks kewl :)

I think most people who watch the latest benchmarks for the high-end video cards would focus on the highest quality results primerly (i do!) because its the most important one .. then go down after that to check the lower results & thats what made some review sites to reduce the charts to normal/highest quality only .

.. thats why i preferd that gray scale to be like that .

Ok then .. TABLE 3 IT IS !!! :D
