Ok, I know the FP is better, more modes, higher refreshes etc...but do you think its worth the extra money? If both CRT's are at 16x12x85, would the FP look better ya think?

Nope... I read all you get is USB ports, and the quality difference is nonexistant.. thats funny because the FE2111SB is the exact monitor I'm getting in 2 days!!! W00t!

You ordered one online? I'm too scared to. Monitors seem so iffy these days I only wanna buy from a B&M that I can toss it back at if it doesn't work or is bad quaility. Shipping would be a nightmare.

I'd still like to see them side by side. The FP supports higher refreshes, which usually indicates higher quality/faster components inside. That's what I'd like to know more about. I really wouldn't mind these numbers:

1600 x 1200 @ 50 to 109 Hz
1800 x 1350 @ 50 to 98 Hz
1800 x 1440 @ 50 to 92 Hz
1856 x 1392 @ 50 to 95 Hz
1920 x 1440 @ 50 to 92 Hz
2048 x 1536 @ 50 to 86

...but since I'd most likely be at 16x12x85, I sure wish I could see em side by side.

No.. I didnt order it online.. I ordered it through the store I work at... I payed a little more than newegg has it for... but its worth it to avoid shipping that thing back in case of a problem.

However I am buying it blindfolded since I have never seen this monitor in person. Supposly it is one of hte best out there, and recently MaximumPC declared it ultra awesome.. Even beating out the highest end sony right now. Check it out:

I just saw it in person at Fry's. It is really nice. I love the Superbright feature. It is great for games. Unfortunately Fry's didn't have the 2141, which is what I wanted to compare it to. Fry's only had the display model 2111 in stock, otherwise I probably would have bought it right there. It was $549.00. ( normal full retail price )

Update, dude, Jakup, I can get it off NEC's demo program, for $468!! ( the 2141FP ). My company is partnered with NEC, didn't know that until it just came up when I was talking monitors with our purchaser.

Cool, same. I'm ordering it Monday. I hope I like it. This ViewSonic P95f+ experience ( see my other thread ) has really aggravated me.

I have had my Mitsubishi 2070SB (It's the same as the FP2141) for about a year and a half now. This monitor beats the pants off most of the other monitors I've seen in the stores, even the Sony's.

It's usually selling for $650-$750 at most online retailers while the Sony's sell for more than $1000. I really can't tell that much of difference between these monitors and the Sony ones.

You can't wrong with the NEC/Mitsubishi line as far as CRT's go.

I love my FE2111SB, one of the best upgrades I have made.

Picture is bright and clear, rock solid refresh rates, it's a gaming beast.

Is there any way to push the FE2111SB to say 90-100hz at 1600x1200 if needed? Will it get borked in time?

As long as the refresh rate is actually supported by the monitor, you will have no problems.

Whenever I use Refresh Force on my Dell P991, it always displays the maximum refresh rate at 1600x1200 as 75 Hz. I manually set it to 85 as I know the monitor is capable and it's worked every time regardless of what video card I've had in there.

How do you know it is capable of that refresh rate?

How do you know it is capable of that refresh rate?

Because I did my homework and checked the specs before I bought it.

The manufacturer's Web site almost always lists the maximum refresh rates for given resolutions. If not, Newegg's specification listings are about as comprehensive as you can get.

How do you know it is capable of that refresh rate?

The FE2111SB cannot handle that refresh rate/res combo. Don't force it. It will damage your monitor rather quickly. Here are your specs:

640 x 480 @ 50 to 160 Hz
800 x 600 @ 50 to 160 Hz
1024 x 768 @ 50 to 143 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 50 to 107 Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 50 to 92 Hz
1800 x 1350 @ 50 to 81 Hz
1800 x 1440 @ 50 to 76 Hz
1856 x 1392 @ 50 to 79 Hz
1920 x 1440 @ 50 to 76 Hz

Maybe you can create a custom timing of 90, but I don't advise running a monitor right at its maximum rate for any res, so just use 85Hz for 16x12.

Is there any way to run 90hz refresh rate?

The NVIDIA driver control panel has this option, or you can use Refresh Force (which I've found easier).

I almost bought one of these NEC's this weekend but chose a Viewsonic VP201s instead.

Best of luck with whatever you choose....
