Monitor question. Please help

I have created a very good gaming rig with the newest everything, but didn't buy a new monitor (I have a 15' LCD right now) thinking that with the next generation of games, like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc., I would have to set the resolution to 1024x768 anyway to play at the highest settings. As you all know, the maximum resolution on a 15' is 1024x768, so I can't set it any higher, even if I'd wanted to. Did I do the right thing, or should I also buy a bigger monitor?

You should buy a bigger monitor if your hardware is good enough to display most new games at the native res of the LCD. The other option is to get a CRT where you wouldn't have this problem.. That's the option i prefer, but it may not suit you.

So if I buy a 15' CRT, I will be able to play at, say, 1280X1024, or higher?

Well.. it still depends on the crt.. most 17" monitors can display 1280x1024, most 19" can display 1600x1200.... But no matter the res, it looks good in all resolutions. On an LCD it's native res looks best.
