Hi!

I was wondering whether anyone has suggestions for a good graphics card for my AMD. I am hoping to play Doom 3, Half - life 2 and major titles in the next two years without needing to upgrade again.

I currently have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64MB and my budget is around £100 - 200.

Would I get a CPU bottle-neck if I got a Geforce 6800 (non-ultra 128MB version) or something more powerful? I have 512MB RAM as well and by monitor can display up to 1280 by 1024

Many Thanks,

Edward Purvis

I would get the 6800 non ultra or the GT. Id recommend GT over non ultra tho.

I Agree with Kahloq, the GT is the BEST buy you can get right now.

You might see some bottlenecking with that processor. I have a Barton 2800 and my Geforce 6800NU runs Far Cry at almost the same speeds with and without AF, at 1280*1024 - it depends how crazy you are about IQ. If you do the AA and AF thing, go for the GT, but if it doesn't matter that much, the 6800NU is as good as any other next-gen card on that system.

I agree with the above post, my 2800 @2200mhz and I get the same frame outside with or without aa 4(med) af 8 (set in games as the control panel doesnt seem to work for farcry) on my gt.
Value for money/ performance the gt is the way to go.

with my Athlon XP 2500+ at 3200+ and my Ultra clocked at 445/1200 I see a big difference in Far Cry at 1280x1024 with AA set to medium AF set to 4 and all detail settings in game set to very high vs 1280x1024 with no AA or AF with all detail settings set to very high. On the Pier level running through the forest 1280x1024 with the AA and AF I get 45FPS to 55FPS with 1280x1024 without AA or AF I get 60FPS to 80FPS according to fraps

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ as well. I was leaning towards a 6800 GT for it.
