My PNY GeForce 6800 GT card runs at 67 degrees while idle and shoots up to 84+ degrees while gaming. The 5900 never got nearly as hot. My games are running great so far. I haven't had a crash or artifacts. I'm afraid to overclock because my PS is borderline. Anyone else's 6800 run as hot as this?

My idle temp is only 57-58 but under load I'm at 78-82C most of the time but leaving the rthdr demo running for about 45 minutes or so I reached 89C.

I'm overclocking mine to 400/1100.

Mine stays between 64-67 idle. Not sure what PNY used on the gpu but I'm tempted to throw some AS5 on it. I know theres already thermal pads on the ram. As you mentioned though, no stability problems so far, even w/ the higher than normal temp.

I e-mailed PNY about the heat form my PNY 6800 Ultra and they replied:

Hi
Rest assured , those temps beeing displayed are well within the normal.
Notice that your threshold is above 100c.
Yes that is a hot temperature , but it is the normal for that model
card.
Play as much as you want and as long as you want , as long as the card
is not OVERCLOCKED there will be no damage to it.
It's unlikely that it would ever reach the temp threshold , unless your
have very poor cooling\ventilation in your computer case.
Take for example the latest Intel P4 Prescott processors , run in
average @ 90c+ when in idle.
Any other questions plz don't hesitate.

My PNY was around 62c on idle but never got too hot during gameplay. I don't think you really have to worry too much about the heat, as long as you have adequate cooling. I have about 4 case fans and the right side of the case open. The case stays at about 75-78f.

We get scared with CPUs running at 60°C or more, because they are rated to only 90°C (e.g. Athlon, Barton). That range isn't valid for a GPU. While 90°C admittedly seems hot, it's nowhere near the danger zone of 140°C for NVIDIA GPUs.

so i can overclock mine to 400/1.1 safley?

I have two GT's, a BFG and a PNY (only difference is the sticker on the heatsink), and they both run near the temps that others have posted.

PNY @ 410/1100 - 60C idle, 85C load
BFG @ 400/1100 - 64C idle, 91C load

Idle temps were taken 15 minutes after startup. Load temps were taken after 15 minutes of running rthdribl.

better case cooling would help.. my card Idle 48c and load is in the 70's..

so do you think it would be safe/worth it to OC to a ultra speed?

im sure it would be ok in the short term, but I would try and get better cooling in the case, or get a side fan that dumps fresh air across the vid card..

after 10 mins of rthdribl I had 77c, im usually 51-54C idle...depending on room temp. Havent gone above 80C so far full load.

(always gotta laugh at the term "full load"...whenever I read it I picture some guy walking home with a pile of sh*t in his pants.)

I'm downstairs in a ranch style house, so my room is awesomely cool most of the time. I idle around 59c and when I'm gaming I get around close to 70c. That's O/C'd to 400/1100 from 370/1000. My coolbits detected 432/1140 this morning when I booted up...that was great!!!! Before on normal idle after awhile I tried coolbits and it got me 427/1120 I think.

It's really alot about how cool you keep your room/house/shelter. :retard:

I just setup my BFG 6800GT, and this thing hit 110c running farcry.
I have more then enough air flow. It locked up at 110c. I called BFG and they said the optimal temp is 90c, at that time I only let the card hit 96c. They said to toy with it and see what happens, 110c happened. I don't know if the fan is running slow or what. I even downclocked it to 350/1000 and it still it 110c. I'm running it with a Prescott 2.8@3.0 and it never hits over 76c. I use the Abit IC7 and it is known for reporting about 10c over. I'm not sure what is going on at this point I just installed the card 2 hours ago.
Max.

My PNY 6800 GT idles around 59C and after letting two instances of rthdribl run for 15 min it was at 88C,The card isnt overclocked.

Same: idle at 61-63c, 84-86c load, 25-28c room (no a/c). The worst part is the amount of heat this thing dumps inside the case. After I installed it, my in case temp rose by about 5c... I want VGA silencer to dump all the heat outside!

This thing is idle at 70c, but the ambient is 46c and it's hot in my apt today about 80f. 110c was to hot for sure. I've got the AC cranked but its still 80fin here or 26.7c. This card has got to have a bad fan. It starts jerky game play around 100c. This sucks.

hey maxxthreat, what is version or revision number of ur ic7? I've heard they don't support prescotts... did I hear wrong?

Yeah you might have. They do support I'm running bios v-23. It supports them for sure. It in their doc's.

Dang, just check the site and their up to v-24 now. Look at v-22 it has prescott micro code.

BFG 6800GT @ Ultra

52c Idle
74c load :firedevil

I believe PNY uses thermal tape. If you plan to apply Arctic Silver or take off the heatsink for any reason make sure you do not tighten the screws to much when putting it back on. The GPU is cracked VERY easily.

If my cpu comes up as unknown will that effect on how my video card reads. I put my Mobile 2500+ in my Abit NF-7 and it reads it as uknown Will this affect compatibility of my 6800 GT?

I'm getting the same card and can't wait til it gets here next wednesday (though, it shipped yesterday and I would hope UPS is a bit faster than that)...but on topic, what program are you all using to monitor your GPU temp? Does MBM5 have something that can check, because I would like to bump my GF4 Ti4400 up to 4600 levels while waiting, but I'm afraid of frying it since I have no way of seeing the temperature.
