Hey guys i was going to buy the gainward golden sample 6800U extreme card and seen alot of people are having problems with gainward cards......

I have always bought golden sample gainward cards but i dont want to buy a new card and have to flash the bios. Is anybody able to tell me if the newer models that are coming out now been fixed or do they still have this problem.

Also i am in the UK, where can you buy these cards from already as everywhere i look is out of stock.

Cheers

It's the Ultra that has a BIOS problem as far as I know..

The GT does not have this problem so I do not think the Extreme has the same problem either.

Btw The BIOS problem should be solved soon, as Gainward is aware of the problem now.

Are you sure Gainward is making an Ultra Extreme? As far as I know, there're only two versions of Ultras. The FX PowerPack GS and the CoolFX PowerPack GS which is water cooled.

Gainwardusa's website only lists the standard ultra and the GS, didn't mention any ultra extreme.

That's a German site. I don't think it'll be available in the US.
Just look at this:

yeah they are making the extreme. Basically from what i have read the extreme is the best card (excluding cool fx) as the current GS 6800U had lower standard mem and core speeds than a standard MSI. The extreme is like the GS of previous cards IMO.

Which sucks for all those who have bought GS cards expecting them to be gainwards best range. I will pre-order the extreme in the hope the bios is fine.

PS will a 550W psu be enough you think as only gpt 460w just now.

I contacted gainward USA yesterday, and told them about the issues people were having, and they said that those issues only deal with the european cards and will not effect the american cards that are coming. It sounds like the European market got stiffed some how. Anyway, once again there will be no difference from the CoolFx to the Extreme to the Ultra. All are the same cards just with different bios. But can be overclocked all the same.

Is the price really 699 Euro? That's almost like US$865.

yeah different cooling systems so unless you are changing how its cooled or have a very cool case then the extreme is a better choice than the GS.

Also on gainward website it say extreme clock 450mhz and memory 1200+ and for GS it says 400+ mhz and 1200mhz.
