Back by popular demand. This time we have a head-to-head comparison of the GeForce 6800 GT and Radeon X800 Pro. Note that these results are based on initial previews of the X800 Pro where performance was compared against the 6800 GT.

Nice!!!

Although I disagree with the observation that the x800 is usually faster with 4xAA/AF.

The chart disagrees as well.

6800GT wins 22, x800 pro - wins 14, (3 draws)
(combined results of all reviews for 4xaa/8xaf)

nice tables mike... good work...

the table should change some when sm3.0 drops with dx9.0c I assume... for the dx games..

That's an extremely touchy subject. Especially when you take into account that it's not always and apples-to-apples comparison.

For example: http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/bfg_geforce_6800_ultra_oc/page5.shtml

True, as I read most of those same reviews it struck me that most did not even say if the GT was benched with Tri and AF opts on or off. Of course the x800 always has them on.

I'm not even sure what a fair setting on the GT would be to match ATI's always on opts.

Probably Quality setting with Tri opts on and AF opts on would be closest.

Great chart BTW, I know how much work went into it and we all appreciate it. :)

Nice Mike :)

I need to thank you since you helped compile the results. Unfortunately I only wanted to include those results based on initial previews of the X800 Pro so I omitted the other comparisons you provided.

I might provide a follow-up with those results.

Oh dont worry about it, I just went out and found what you needed, You used the data which was most relevent. :)

I like how much better it looks than my intial graph :)

How many times are we going to use the Q3 engine?
Or even the UT engine for that matter.

Wow! The GT kicks some A. . . Alot of those are with the older drivers too. The newer drivers already have increase performance. Now for the games that will have SM3.0 patches is just more icing on the cake. This is shaping up well for Nvidia, also looks like IBM is producing the chips for Nvidia more so then the competition. Good job everyone here and at Nvidia.

And that's without clocking the GT up to Ultra speeds, which most boards seem to be doing!!

I think it's very telling that ATI is releasing a new x800 GT with 16 pipelines to compete with the GT. The GT has ATI scared!! :afraid:

Very nice graph.

I think the conclusion is that, on this generation, the consumer wins :D
take ATI or nvidia as you like, you cant really go wrong anyway. The performance delta is quite small...

It sure does and now that we have D3 benches we see just how good
the GT really is.
Nvidia is just going to kill ATI on these new games coming out.
The 6800 is hands down just a lot better than ATI's offering.
My hats off to nvidia for such a big turn around from the FX line.

I know Doom3 has exclusive eye-candy to NVIDIA cards but are they also exclusive to only the 6800 line? I have a FX 5900 Ultra and I'm wondering if it will look exactly the same as on a 6800 card. Note that I'm talking about eye-candy features and not speed.
