Hey guys and gals. First off I've been ati for the 9700 pro and 9800 pro. I've always said whoever makes the best card that"s where my hard earned money goes. So even the hard core nvidia fan has to admit that ever since the 9700 pro came out ati has been the better piece of hardware. Well times change and thought the 6800 Ultra and the xt pe are about even,my switch to nvidia is based on sm 3.0 and improved image quality and now the horsepower to run games at 1600x1200 with af and aa cranked.

My decision or the decision I have to make...is the 6800gt close to the 6800 ultra or is the diffrence in perdromance worth the 100 plus dollars. Also does the bfg gt overclock to ultra speeds easily?
Thanks in advance! (newb)

Well by all the reviews I've seen the GT is about 5FPS or so off the Ultra. Heres an example: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjM3LDg= As you can see Hard OCP was able to get 425/1.16 which is really good considering its stock cooling.

I've been reading all about people reaching Ultra speeds with the exception of two people with the BFG. In the end its up to you but if it helps I made my decision and placed an order for the 6800 GT at evga.com's site on Sunday, and its coming here to my house today. Ill post my max overclock when I get it here.

I own a Ti 200, Ti4200, FX5900 NU and now a 6800 GT, I have as yet to give up on Nvidia, there drivers are good so I havent taken the chance with ATI...
I would say the difference going from the 5900NU to the GT is about the same difference between my GeFoce 3 Ti 200 64mb and my GeForce FX 5900 NU 128Mb

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll go with the GT ,BTW if i get the gt I can afford to get the msi neo nf3 250 for my a64 3200,I now run the gigabyte nf 3 150 k8npro. Anyways thanks again,I think the gt will work well with my watercooled systym. GT it is!

Even at non ultra speeds this card is fast. I am one of those whose GT just doesn't want to play at Ultra core speeds but the memory sure does. It doesn't bother me a bit because I can get it up to 390mhz artifact free and the memory up to 1.15. In the end if the card didn't even overclock 1 mhz over stock I would be very pleased :).
