I Fixed it!!! I took those cheap thermal pads off of my mem chips, put some AS5 on and now Painkiller runs flawlessly with mem clocked at 1.2. No more freezing and no more artifacts. I didn't take the heatsink off of the core just the mem. and that was my problem.

Edit: No more pixel popping in Farcry either runs silky smooth :)

Just for fun.

A couple of us a working on something over at eVGA Forum about this Stuttering Issue.

Although setting 2D/3D clocks as the same fixes the problem for many, it does not for all.

I know what I am going to suggest next might seem "out there", but it has worked with testing so far.

Change your System Memory from Dual Channel Mode to Single Channel Mode

I fixed my "pause" problem by setting the low-power 3d and performance 3d clocks the same. Seems my card would run the performance 3d clocks for about 30 seconds and then go into low-power 3d mode. Setting the clocks the same for both completely eliminated the pause.

Perhaps this would work for some other peoples issues as well? How did you set the low power 3D clock? It doesn't show in control panel, and it's greyed out in rivatuner for me.

I can adjust the regular 2D/3D clocks (which fixed my pausing) but I can't adjust the lp3D. I've noticed that just after gaming, when I quit to desktop, the speeds drop to lp3D settings for about 5 seconds, then they jump back to my o/c'd setting?

Hey, I'm having so many freakin problems with this new Graphics Card. With how much money I spend for it, I want the best out of it. Latley Doom 3 has been freezing for 5 seconds. Itthen comes back on line, then all textures turn black, or the screen will be defected with random noise like this: httP://www.vigilantgamer.com/problem.JPG

I turned off the Fast Write and even messed around with overclocking. Nothing seems to get better. It just gets worse. What the heck is the problem. Why can't Nvidia Release a patch since this is a very big problem to those who are having the problems.
Please help as quick as possible, I want to get back to finishing Doom 3 and finally start play FarCry again. FarCry freezes every 5 seconds.

Where do I find the option to change to Single Channel Mode?

Auswak

The is no setting to change.

You have to open your case an make your your RAM is inserted into the right slots (normally slot 1 & 2 for single channel)
You will need to check your motherboard manual.

Ok, I'm going to use 3dMark03 to see how high the score is and weither it freezes. Ok, I got 8301points in 3dmark. But one problem, it was freezing for 5 seconds then snaped back in. I'll benchmark Doom 3 next.

Ok, I tried Ground Control 2, but like before, it freezes the first 30 seconds starting the game. What do I do? :( God I wish I had a better GFX card. Wait, this is one of the best Graphics Cards. I just need help!!!!

Is there a common thread with this problem?

I have this freeze issue on my new 3800+ system (using a gigabyte 939 nforce3 board). Disabling Fast Writes alone did nothing. Equalizing the clocks for 2d/3d got me through a full 3dmark03 run with no stuttering or freezes, but I need to do more testing when I get home from work.

Interestingly enough, I didn't have this problem at all on the 875/3.4C (P4C800-E Deluxe).

Hey all me again I crowed to early I had more problems. With hesitations weird pauses. So I decided to play mad scientist and remove the cooler from my PNY 6800GT I removed the weird thermal grease pads applied AS5 and re tightened a very very loose gpu cooler I tested for 2 days straight 8 degC drop in gpu under load in DOOM3 and Farcry used to be up to 87 now only hits 79 WOOT absolutely no more weird hangs just gaming bliss. Check the gpu cooler I think this was a loose cooler issue they had wienies tightening these at the factory. tighten in star pattern for those of you who are a little new at this stuff. I also set 2d/3d same and I am useing 65.23 Beta from guru3d this is by far the best card I have ever owned besides the little issue with getting it to work hehehe. Peace out and Good luck. (newb)'s

Eh I am getting these extremely annoying pauses too. Going to 61.34 helped but only let me play about 10 secs more before they started happening.

This is a heat issue with a poorly installed cooler on the 6800 series cards.
After I put AS5 on my ram I noticed the GPU cooler was very loose. after I tighten it the issues have stopped. Ran 48 hours idle 53c load 79c in DOOM3.
I can run any driver from 61.34,61.76,61.77,65.62 <--- is an awsome driver got it @ guru3d set 2d/3d but runs stable even if they are not the same. :lol2:

Remove the sheild by the fan and tighten the gpu heatsink (star pattern for tightening) I think the reference design was not tightened down enough the screws had 2 full turns to make them tight this is a physical issue I am shure of it. This will not void warranty just don't pull off heat sink bad contact will cause gpu to overheat or if tighter on one side will also cause overheat. A wrongly installed cpu will show similar lockups.try it! It is the problem! I am shure of it.

The thing is my brother has a crappier GFX card and can run Doom 3 at ultra settings without a problem.:( I feel bad right now.

just try removing the thing with a logo by the fan and tightening all the screws it helps. Tried my little brothers PNY 6800GT also no problems anymore. Try it bud.

:spam2: I believe Alienware you cannot open the case you need to RMA whole machine.
Do you know any A+ certified technichians that can help you? I am a tech but I don't think you should if you do not feel confident. This is a very easy fix but I think maybe Nvidia Vendors should Recall the cards or release a solid guide for the fix I have tried the fix on 5 different brands of the 6800 series cards all with the same result. Nvidia's tork specs are incorrect or just sloppy manufactureing on the Vendors behalf but it is conclusive that these cards are overheating not beyond spec but the cooling solution is to blame.(newb)

Can you take me through the steps to do that thing with the graphics card N8PIZZUTO? Please don't call me a newb, cuz I know lots of technical ****. And your the one who knows more about the graphics card than me.
