Just curious as to what you all were able to overclock to and at what frequency did you start to see trouble. I left my PNY at 425/1.15 and it's stable and did not try overclocking but was curious as to the potential I might have at overclocking even more (because I'm planning to get watercoooling in the next few months).

My Gt can reach 430/1190 Your ultra should get up to the 40's I would think.

454/1280 stock air(BFG 6800 Ultra OC) Artifacts started showing up at 456, lower if it was really warm in the room.

Yeah, I'm thinking of pushing mine up, just concerned about heat. How hot did yours get at Kahloq?

Yeah, my PNY came overclocked at 425 stock but was not running well, games would freeze up on me. It was only when I upped the 2D mhz from 400 to 425 (to match the 3D settings) did everything run smoothly.

BFG6800U @ 451/1211 for me. I can bench at 460 artifact free but I get sparklies in FC on some textures so I don't consider it stable. I bet W/C would let me go to 470 like the BFG package that they offer.

See sig below. 460 is rock solid except for the carrier map in Far Cry, had to drop to 455. I've recently taken off my thermal pads on the memory (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=32091&page=4&pp=15) and replaced with Ceramique so my try to bump up memory a bit more.

Hey Clay,
Are you using air cooling or water. Oh, and the link you posted for that thread was nice. Good step by step. I on the otherhand, don't feel confident enough to open up my card, I'll probably break it in the process. I'm a truck sometimes :retard:

Strictly air cooling. No special fans either, all stock cooling. The BFG Ultras appear to come with Arctic Silver quality thermal compound on the core. I cleaned it as you can see and I replaced with Ceramique on the core as well as memory.

It's not that bad, 19 screws for me on the BFG Ultra to remove. The biggest challenge is lining up the backplate support while mounting the four tension screws surrounding the core when you put it all back together. Having an extra pair of hands really helps at that point. :)

Havent had time to mess much with it but my evga 6800 Ultra is at 430/1.22 with no issues yet.

Use tape to hold the backplate in position while you're reinstalling the screws. Works great.

Just overclocked it to 450/1.2 It's stable, a little hotter but not much. It's now around 65c idle and 79-80c under load. I'm definitely going to get watercooling though and see how much further I can push it.

Just wanted to highlight a potential issue to overclockers when they finally get Doom 3 (taken from Hard OCP):
A note on overclocking: it is very likely that overclocked configurations that "play everything else perfectly" will start to show problems on D3 due to new usage patterns. Everyone is of course free to do whatever they want with their own hardware, but don't complain to us...

Talking to John briefly about his overclocking comments made some things clear to us that many enthusiasts will need to be aware of. When he speaks of "new usage patterns" he is literally talking about transistors on some of new GPUs that are going to be used for the first time when you play DOOM 3 on your video card. So be aware that pushing your GPU MHz may get you different results in DOOM 3 than with other games.

So if your overclocked GPU starts doing funny stuff with Doom 3, make sure to keep this in mind. :)

443/1220 seems to be about the most this card can do.

When overclocking, I cannot stress enough the fact that you have to test as many programs as you can. If you OC and just test, let's say Far Cry, another game and/or benchmark might not be able to handle the speeds you've set.

My card can clock to 455/1240, which worked fine for Far Cry, but AMP II and 3DMark 03 didn't like it.

AMP II was fine with 448/1230, but again 3DMark 03 was unhappy. Thus I've reduced it down to the frequencies stated above and everything so far has been running smoothly.

My 6800 Ultra Extreme can do 470 MHz core / 1,210 MHz RAM, no artifacts. :)

YOGIx213: Yeah, I'm wondering just how much harder on video cards it will be to run DOOM III and
what affect that will have on our cards. I get the feeling a lot of these crazy speeds will
have to be scaled back once DOOM III gets unleashed on our GeForces. :)

According to the article, Doom 3 will be using technology on our cards that that has never been utilized by any of today's games. Doom 3 will essentially be the first true test of the new technology and it's capabilities. I don't really worry much, even if I have to bring the overclocking back down, I'm sure my 6800 ultra will be sufficient. :)
