I've installed a second TFT monitor to my GeForceFX 5600 and i'm using it in
twinview mode to expand my desktop.

The problem is that the second DVI output produces gray horizontal lines,
which are more evident at the top-right of the TFT monitor. The bottom
left doesn't have any.

I'm using two Sony SDM-X73 17" TFT monitors, at 1280x1024 resolution each
with the latest drivers.

I'm worried because this doesn't seem driver related because the same
corruption exists under both WinXP and Linux :(

Is this a known problem or limitation with dual-dvi geforce cards?

Please tell us that you switched the cables and the lines are associated with the GeForce DVi connector and not with the display?

Please tell us whether the lines are in the same position or change location when you select a different resolution? or OS?

Please tell us whether the lines move or are stationary under all circumstances?

Please tell us what version you have as "the latest drivers." What Windows and what linux are you using?

FYI My dual-DVI 5700 Ultra has a perfect digital output to both displays.
FYI NVIDIA reference design has one integrated transmitter and one external transmitter, so there's a good chance that your DVI ports do NOT have the same signal quality.

1) Haven't tried that yet :)

2) They are in the same possition/size when i change resolution/OS.

3) They are stationary i think, they start from the right edge and fade
out towards the left at around the middle.

4) WinXP: 61.76, Fedora Core 2: 1.0-6106

This is very weird, today i swapped the cables and DVI ports, and the second
monitor (connected as first) does NOT have any shadow/gray lines.

But the weirdest thing is, i've put both TFTs back on and now that i've started
working, i've realised the lines have GONE! not a single one of them in sight.

I'll work on the system for the rest of the day, so i'll see if they come back.

PS:
another post has reported similar problems, but after using the system for
some time, though his problem was about 'dot' artifacts than lines.

the lines are back after half a day or so of working :(

is there a known problem with nvidia cards and dual dvi?

1. Try switching DVI cables? Do you have a spare cable?

2. Reverse the orientation such that Monitor 1 goes to DVI 2 and Monitor 2 goes to DVI 1. If you get gray lines again then it may be a card issue.

Its a card problem :(

oh well..

Well, RMA it! That's what the service is for - this is a legitimate hardware problem with the card.

BTW - to determine that - did you swap the DVI cables from one monitor to the other at the monitor end (unplug each monitor, swap the cable) AND do another test swapping them at the card end? (IE., unplug each from the card and plug into the other spot)

It might well be a cable problem, not a card problem.
