lealjay, try rearranging your power and IDE/SATA cables in your case to get better airflow going. My 6800 GT was running around 62-63 c in idle before I cleaned my case up, now it runs about 56-57 (after a couple of hours, it stays around 52-53 shortly after boot). The biggest difference I noticed was how it now runs about 75 c under load, where it used to be around 84-85 c. I didn't realize how big a difference case airflow can make.

55-56 idle temps

I have several case fans so my airflow is pretty good.

XFX 6800 Ultra Idle 49-51, Load 70-71. What's the best method to find out load temps? task-switch back?

No there is a program called rthdribl. Install that and then opn your nvidia display and click the temps option and move that to the right of your screen so you can see the temps. The RUN rthdribl and it will go through a series of graphics tests and you can watch the temps cuz rthdribl is in a windowed mode. This will give you a good estimate of "underload" temps.

Go here to download this tool:
