Just installed my 6800GT but I noticed the fan keeps blowing at full speed. My previous 9800PRO and X800PRO cards (X800 broke!!) only got to full fan speed when gaming for a while, but were pretty silent in 2D mode.

My 6800GT is a Aopen version.

Well thats not much more than mine, but then again I can't tell if mine is running full force because I have so many case fans.

well, I can tell it's VERY loud. I've read in some other threads that the 6800GT is supposed to be this loud when booting, but once the drivers 'kick in', it should be pretty quiet. But mine stays spinning this hard; could be a driver issue, but got no idea how I can fix this. any help?!

i think aopen build your card like asus V9999, it's also keeps fans always at full speed, but heatsink of the asus card is half of other and fit in only one pci slot (read review at anandtech) and for this it must run fans always at full speed for cooling core enough.

i think this, so i suggest you contact aopen for further information.

But that was for the Ultra. The GT really shouldn't be that way I wouldn't think.
