weee... my card supports instancing too :)

ah... the legs of the r3xx just keep on running it strong (reasonably so) even today :)

nice news... will be interesting to see whether 3dc is incorporated in the next patch "1.2"

Taken from the article: Rather than having to upload each of these objects individually, with geometry instancing multiple objects can be created from one geometric model. This reduces the amount of vertex data that must be sent to the graphics core, enhancing performance.

I fail to see the novelty about instancing. I was under the impressione that since DX7 its possible to cache vertex mesh data into the GPU memory to speed up the T&L process over multiple copies of the same object. The Unreal engine use this approach for static meshes and it's a plain DirectX 8 engine.
