Ummmm JUST so PPL know........this is a redistribution for SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS, NOT for End users. Of course, you can install it if you like.

This is the final version. It is for software developers as said above. But it is for them to give to End-users with games and such.

This download provides the DirectX 9.0c end-user redistributable that developers can include with their product.

I've winxp sp2 , with dx9c already installed, but this version is newer so i wanted to install it but it goes like *plop* less then a seccond and then is says finished :| anyone knows if this is correct or should i somehow unistall my dx9 version first, or is there an updater ?

If it is doing that, then your current version matches what you are trying to install.

If you want to completly reinstall it, you will have to get a program to remove your current DirectX in safe mode then reboot and install the new one. You will most likely need to have your Windows XP CD handy if you uninstall your current version of DirectX because it will pull files from the CD to put you back to the default install of DirectX.

this is actually the perferred method of installing directx. you can download the full 30-40meg file (what the redist means), and keep a copy of it to install when you do a reformat and this not have to be connected to the internet and have your ethernet drivers installed first.

I agree there. This is deffinetly what I consider the best way to install it. Its good to have the full install file ready to go after a reinstall.

Well I've installed it, and games still run fine. I just installed over the top.
Still using a gf4 like, but that will change tomorrow.

Performance is better, and stability is whole lot better. I am using the 61.71 drivers now, and having no issues.

Anyone know if I can get this to do a silent install as part of my unattended win 2k setup? (e.g. command line switches?)

***************

I think I've found the answer at MSFN forum:

Extract files with winzip

run "dxsetup.exe /silent"

Off topic - This forum seems to have some of the coolest smilies I've seen, so I hope you don't mind me having a play as below :)

I am using XP Pro SP2 RC2, and as you may know this already has Dx 9.0c beta. But now I can't install the final DX 9.2 redist. Anyone have a clue as how this can be updated? The files in the DirectX on MS website seem newer (I extracted them, and compared the dates and sizes to the version I have - they don't match).
