What would you say is the minimum CPU needed for a 6800 series GPU? I think anything under an XP 2500+ or P4 2.6GHz would be a real waste. I'd like to know what you guys think so I can advise others. I think my system is a bottleneck for the GT.

Personally, I think that no matter what you use the performance gain is there. When I had my XP 2100+ I used a Radeon 9700 PRO, and people said it was overkill, but I still had much better performance than those with similar set-ups and the Radeon 9500 PRO.

Your CPU is fine for a GT. Get an Ultra if you want to also, imo. Get whatever makes you happy.

yea...even a 700mhz pc would see gains with a gt. Generally though, a 2.4 ghz cpu or higher is rec.

(2600+) + 6800gt > (2600+) + 5900U (@5950U)

very noticeable, especially at high resolution

fartcry = totally different games with these 2 cards

Since you are buying a GT/Ultra to run tomorrows games you need a CPU that is also up to the task for advanced physics and AI. IMO 2Ghz P4 or Athlon XP 2000+ is fine although you need a Athlon 64 to get the most out of the card.

Bah!

I bought a 6800 NU and even that card is held back by my XP 2400+, but even so the performance is still leaps and bounds over my old card.

Personally i'm not going to upgrade the processor until i can afford a 64, which means new MB and ram. Upping the speed on a 32 bit chip just isnt worth it from what ive seen of all the benchmarks.
