Greatest game advertisment to gain interest ever?

I saw the Halo 2 trailer (see me here (http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/482/482228/vids_1.html)) when it was released a couple days ago and at the end caught the website the was quickly flashed (http://nvnews.ilovebees.com/). I visted it and thought nothing of it really other than what the hell it has to do with Halo 2. But then there is the countdown and the weird messages...what the hell is MS up to. The site seems to innocent like someones past time, but what is that coundown leading to...the day Microsoft finally takes over the world, a demo? Who knows but all very interesting even IGN has a good article on it.

Also any of you dudes without a X-Box planning to pick one of for Halo 2?

I dare say that some script kiddie was just showin off his L33T skillz by hacking the site, the owner's hotmail, her computer, her ISP, her bank account, etc... basically it was just someone with alot of time on his/her hands. Although it could be elaborate scam from M$ trying to get everyone interested in Halo 2.

Yeah, this whole ilovebees thing is kinda cool, a lot of the lines really remind me of the dialog in the old Marathon games. Cool easter egg, they've obviously put a lot of thought into it. I doubt there was any hacking of a website though, I highly doubt there was an ilovebees.com before this whole Halo 2 thing, and if there was MS probably just lisenced it for a little while from whoever owned it. Bungie is always good at doing things like that, apperently in the Myth 2 code there's some lines that are from Durandal in Marathon. Reminds me of the skit they did for the AI movie, where there was apperently some secret phone number you could call and it gives you the address of some secret website.

They really did work hard at it though, images seem to be randomly distorted like that, and the text seems to be different everytime you look at the page. But of course, everyone is wondering what it's counting down to...I'd guess a demo, but maybe it's something suprising we haven't seen before. Also they give lots of little hints here and there: for example the e-mail address of the person to contact who "owns" the website is ladybee777, multiply the numbers togeather and see what you get. Oh, and the site still works no matter what you put in front of .ilovebees.com, even random numbers work.

This whole thing is one of the reasons why I like Bungie so much: their community interaction is absolutely superb, and they always provide more to entertain than just their games.

hopefully they will do a PC port ( a better one won't hurt)... and hopefully it will come out earlier.. with Co-op

Well the trailer clearly doesn't state "Only for Xbox" when the Xbox logo shows up. This could mean big things for PC Gamers. Very big indeed, like the bill we will have when we have to upgrade just to play it and Doom 3 and Half Life 2 at high specs.

The Wiki that the Gamespot article points to (or just go here (http://bees.netninja.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page)) offers a lot of very good thought on the whole subject, and has compiled everything from the site in a more readable fashion. It makes a lot more sense when you can read it in chronological order instead of all mixed up. If you're at all interested in this thing, it's worth a read - especially The Widow's Journey - A Computer Text Comparison.

blah my head hurts w/ all that. Bottom line is as long as the game is solid when released, I'm happy.

Maybe Alien Bees are arriving August 24th and the Queen Bee hacked that site to let the world know? :screwy:

Sorry to say that's not going to happen - no PC port this time around.

How precisely do you know that? When Bungie was bought out, they told us no PC port. It got released for PC. This time around they ARE advertising it with the Xbox logo, but NO "only for xbox" logo. This could be misinterpreted but i think it means that there will be a PC port eventually.

I sure hope there is a port. :(

I loved the first game and read the two books that went along with it. I like the story to this series.

Actually Bungie specifically stated that there WOULD be a PC version of Halo, only because as part of the original agreement with MS all of their current projects (which was pretty much only Halo) would also be released on the PC and Mac. However, after the completion of Halo for the Xbox, the PC and Mac versions were put on the backburner while they started working on Halo 2, and until the project was given to Gearbox there was basically no progress done on it. They could've released the PC version of Halo a few months after the Xbox version if they wanted to.

However, Halo 2 has no such contract, and it's very unlikely that the game will be ported. The "Only on Xbox" sticker doesn't really mean anything, a lot of games that are Xbox exclusive don't have that on it, and of course games like Halo 1 did have it even though there was going to be a PC port of it from the start. PCs are not counted when dealing with the "only on Xbox" sticker, only other consoles.
