yesterday after a 7 hr ordeal of trying to get a botched graphic driver install to work [ finally have it installed] i now get a rundll32 error which was causing an error in nview.dll [ havent seen this one yet today] were is this run dll found ? can i simply replace it ? do i need to reinstall the OS ? when i ctrl atl del to close a locked up program there is 2 rundll32's in there,should that be ?

also my monitor keeps expanding and contracting the pic, which is why i replaced the driver. any ideas how to fix this ? bl00dy annoying !

That's a pretty serious error. Normal when I run into stuff like that I re-install. Microsoft mentions it several times in there search engine. You might see if this one applies to you- rundll32 error (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q138835&)

I had a problem like this, it was just caused by me forgetting to completely uninstall the drivers I had on before. Go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers. Then go to your hardware profiles thing into the device manager, look under display adapters and you should not have anything there other than maybe standard vga adapter, but anyways, after thats done, install the drivers that you want. Should take care of it.

Definitely sounds like there's some old driver files/registry entries corrupting your system. Make sure you download Detonator Destroyer (use Google to search) and do everything in safe mode when you perform the uninstallation. This is especially important in 98, where the NVIDIA uninstaller is terrible at removing driver files and registry entries. Why they can't implement the uninstallation method they use in 2k/XP is beyond me. :rolleyes:

even after uninstalling the drivers [with and without det destroyer] i still find driver files in win.sys.
should they still be there ?

ill try it again [instalation] when i forget yesterdays ordeal..a day or 2 lol

try doing all of that in safe mode...delete everything you know shouldn't be there, and install the new drivers in safe mode too...

If after you install the drivers properly for your video adapter the monitor keeps on doing that, try updating the drivers for the monitor. If that doesn't work, try lowering the refresh rate or the resolution or different combinations of both. If the problem still persists, could be that your monitor is dying. Once again, I had a monitor do this, the problem went away after a while.:D

i reinstalled the driver last night [ in safe mode] still get the same error with rundll and nview dll

monitor still does the same thing.

i was wondering if replacing the 40.72 nview dll with one out of an older driver would help ?

same with the rundll

would replacing these do the trick do you think ??

Doubt it, probably just something in the registry, or you can try to go to the "run" thing on start menu and type "msconfig" and then go to the startup section and disable it from coming up on the startup, but then that could mess other things up. The reason that is coming up is because you had older drivers that used that, once you installed the newer drivers they didn't need it but there is an entry somewhere looking for that file, can't find it so there is the error. By putting that file there you could case more problems, try using detonator destroyer again, if that doesn't work disable that item in the start up and install 41.03 drivers instead.

Ok, umm... well, remove the driver that you are using right now. Install the older driver, and then use detonator destroyer. Since you are on 98 it should work. Once that is done, you can install the 41.03 driver and it should work fine. If that doesn't work, you can use the last version of NVMAX and use the driver removal thing on there. Works better than Detonator Destroyer. But you have to have NVMAX, forgot where to get it but once you have it you can remove the drivers easily with that and just remove NVMAX after and install the new drivers that you want.
