Thanx to this thread I was able to install the Nvidia drivers under redhat 8.0 using the latest kernel...

I have succesfuly installed the Nvidia drivers in the past under RH Linux 7.1 through 7.3 using the source files....

It was a pain in the A*^ but I finally have the latest kernel running with the Nvidia drivers .... wohoooo!

Under system settings, display, then under the Advanced tab, there is an option for "enable hardware 3d acceleration", but it is greyed out...

Everything else is fine, so I'm geussing I'll have to edit some file to gain this option?

I am fairly new to linux so any help would be appreciated....

Thanx in advance!

The GUI program you're looking at doesn't have a clue how the nVidia drivers work. The checkbox thingy is grayed out because it doesn't think it can enable 3D. Of course, it's wrong, but it doesn't know that.

If you've made the changes to your XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file, you have 3D working. You can always check by looking at the speed of glxgears, or by installing TuxRacer and running it. If you get >1-2 fps in TuxRacer, you have 3D, regardless of what certain GUI tools tell you.
