I am trying to upgrade my NVIDIA drivers from 5336 to the new 61XX series -- I've tried both 6106 and 6111. Both of these won't allow X to start. X doesn't even show the mouse cursor for even a brief second, instead it hangs at a black screen. Keep in mind X works perfectly with the 5336 drivers. When I hit CTRL+BACKSPACE to halt X, I am thrown back to a mangled, blue-tinted console (see attachment).
If I reinstall 5336 drivers, rmmod nvidia && modprobe nvidia && startx, close X, then my console returns to the normal gray text on black background console. I have also attached my nvidia-bug-report.log.
I am running Gentoo Linux on an HP Pavilion ZD7000 notebook with the NVIDIA GeForceFX Go 5200 chip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
