I want to upgrade to a 2.8 or 3.0 ghz processor. What is a good motherboard processor combo? And whats the best ram to buy?

Well, it'd be good to know how much you're willing to spend...

And, by 2.8-3.0, are you only speaking of want for intel, or would you like to get an AMD processer/mobo setup if the price/performance is right?

Im looking to spend somewhere around 300. It doesnt matter whether its intel or amd, I just want a machine that will be good for gaming.

$300? £300? 300e? 300 woolongs? Letting us know what country you're in would allow us to properly help you. :)

Edit: And what are you upgrading from? Might need new RAM, too, y'know. And other stuff. Like graphics card(s).

Here are 3 combos of mobo and cpu. Im not into overclocking and I would like to spend the least possible. What do you guys think is the best choice:

1. Chaintech VNF3-250 / AMD Athlon 64 3200+ = 290.00

2. MSI K8N Neo Platinum / AMD Athlon 64 3200+ = 338.00

3. MSI K8N Neo Platinum / AMD Athlon 64 3000+ = 294.00

All of these come with free 2nd day air and a copy of farcry.

Well I like option 2 the best because obviously I wanna recommend the faster 3200, and MSI is a better board than the Chaintech I think. But option 2 also goes over your limit. I haven't heard any real complaints about the Chaintech though, so I guess if you must have this upgrade below $300 than go with option 1. If you can bear to spend just a few dollars more, definetly option 2.
