Not sure if these have been posted before, but here's some more stunning shots
Now, to me, there's nothing today, HL2, Doom 3, Farcry, STALKER, etc.. that can even compare to these early shots.
I read earlier on, that someone thinks Farcry is as good ?
It's not even close, it's not even in the same universe.
Start saving for a GeForce 7 series, 4 gigs of ram, and a quad core 64 bit 5 ghz CPU.

I really need to see those outdoor effects in motion to believe them.

John Carmack, I think your match is Tim Sweeney!
Great times for gaming...great times.
One thing about the Unreal engine which I have always liked, is the use of high res textures, damn UE3 looks sweet.

I still remember the surprise when I first played Unreal and, upon coming near a wall, I didn't spot the usual blurred squares but rather the detail textures.
Lot of developers understimate the visual impact of good textures on flat surfaces. They can more than compensate the low polycount, but the reverse is not always true. A high poly mesh will always look lame without good texturing.
