Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new video card (current one is a ti4400), and MUST have one with dual dvi output. However, the 6800U is way out of what I can justify for a video card. I play games only occasionaly games and right now am mainly concerned about getting good performance and visual quality when HalfLife2 comes out. Playing HL2 at 1600x1200 would be great, but I would be satisfied at 1024x768. The only non-ultra 6800 options that have dual dvi outputs I've found are...

XFX 6800NU - $280 avail. now
Chaintech 6800GT - $430 (est.) due out in 1-2 weeks

I'm very tempted to get the XFX nu card because of the price, but worried that I'll regret only having 128mb later on. One other think I like about this card is it's single slot, runs cooler and less noise than the GT. Any input or advice welcome!

Thanks,
m

In some cases the GT can be upto 50% faster then the NU.

There has to be a place that still sell's GT's for $400.. I'd just save the extra bux and go for the GT, for the better performance.

The GT is single slot too (although i wouldn't put anything next to it). does it _really_ matter if it runs cooler? My PSU and case fan drowns out the GT's fan too.

if you want to play at 1600x1200 then most certainly go with the GT, but 6800nu is a decent Card and will play HL2 very well at 1024x768 with moderate AF/AA settings.

Go with eVGA's 6800NU, they offer a step up program that will allow you to upgrade your card for only the difference in price/shipping, if you don't like it in 90 days. You may want to double check the website to make sure it's still offered. For somebody in your shoes that seems the best way to go.

Thanks for the replies, everyone

Go with eVGA's 6800NU,

No can do...only single DVI out and I gotta have two! Running dual 20" LCDs and want dvi quality for both. Can really tell the difference between them now with 1 dvi and 1 vga.

There has to be a place that still sell's GT's for $400

Maybe, but I expect the Chaintech will be hard to find at this price. It's the only GT that i know of that has dual DVI!

Thanks again!

Looks like I may have another dual dvi GT option. XFX has added one to their lineup. Does not appear to be shipping just yet. Was wondering what the common opinion here was on Chaintech vs. XFX products?

After finding the XFX 6800NU (dual dvi) for only $269 with no tax or shipping I decided to go ahead and order it. Was hard to pass up at that price. I'll post my findings once it arrives.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

Dont think you'll be disapointed so long as you stay in the 1280x1024 and lower res if you want to use AA :)
