I am trying to load RedHat Enterprise 3 on an HPA NX9500.
This comes loaded with an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700 card.
I can start the X server and login. Every time I try to logout using the GUI the machines hangs totally. It requires a reboot to free it.
It also hangs every time I attempt to use the browser to access the internet.

I have tried attaching this to an externel monitor that is working fine on a Linux desktop without any luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I was using 32 bit debian I would sometimes get a hang on close of X. Things came right since kernel 2.4.23. Your kernel is a bit old, it may have security fixes but not all general bug fixes, so consider upgrading - to 2.6 even.

I've noticed the same problem running WS 3.0 on the nx9500. Additionally, I am unable to login using the KDE. The workaround I recommend is to login using GNOME as a user other than root.
