As some of you may know, the Counter-Strike Source beta has been started at cyber-cafes across the country. Only cyber-cafes that are in Valves cybercafe service have access to the game. Owners of Counter-Strike Condition Zero and ATI HL2 Vouchers will be able to start playing the beta on August 18th. From these collections of screenshots, the game looks extremely well, and that many people are saying the screens don't even do the game justice, and that the physics are awesome and the outcome of physics+battles are amazing. This game looks amazing and I can't wait to try it out. Kinda makes me want to buy Condition Zero... Here are the collections of screens from cyber-cafes around the country.

Too bad it doesn't look like CZ. It's CS on the HL2 engine, to say that would be extremely crazy. I can't even count the number of shaders and physics in place in the Source engine. Looks like CZ my ass. :lame:

I'm sorry dude but even if this is on Source, it still looks like crap. It's just a port of the original game over to the source engine. I just can't see how you think this low poly crap looks good.

Polycount isn't everything, and to call this low poly would be a definate understatement. Look at HL when it first came out. Now, compare to some of the models made by fans. They look 1000 times better, just think of what user modifications would look like on Source. Not to mention, the use of Specular, High Dynamic Range, Physics, Shaders, all of that. Really, CS:Source is gonna be great, along with Half-Life 2.

I don't really care how high poly it is compared to HL 1. It still looks like crap.
these do look pretty lame. I hope HL2 doesnt end up looking like this. =/ Maybe the pc that took these screens had it on low settings?

No, make sure you can see the full pic and your browser doesn't resize it, or it looks like 640 x 480. Plus, it's a beta, and graphics can still get way better before release. Eveer seen the water on Aztec? It looks amazing. Or the specular on the floor on Dust? Awesome as well. Something else quite awesome is the floating dust through the sunlight through the dome slits on dust. Amazing. He played and took the pics on a Radeon 9700 Pro, 4xAA 16XAF 1024 x 768 on a 3GHz Pentium 4 with 1024 MB of RAM. Those were the specs on the first link of screenshots. And said, and I quote "Never any slowdown, no matter how intense the action became." Awesome. Just plain Awesome.

I think it looks like it COULD look awesome, but right now, it really does just look like regular old CS with higher res texture and some specular. What they should do is redesign the levels a bit to showcase the Source engine's capabilities. Either way, it's gonna be fun as hell when it comes out.

If nobody had told me, i would think those screen shots are CS1
And besides the not so impressive graphics-
Same exact game..Same exact style of play... Same exact strategies.

im starting to think these beta testers are all the n00bs with geforce 2's
You guys are totally missing the point. Counter Strike is the ULTIMATE GAME FOR SHUTINS. Bad graphics, limited gameplay and almost godlike belief in it. Yeap. No other lame game does it better. :P
I too don't see anything remarkable in those shots. Why didn't they at least make a new map for the beta to show off the source engine?

Right, that's what I want to see. I'm really looking forward to playing this so I'd like to think that they'd at least make some new maps with decent looking architecture. It just looks so bland in those screenshots. Like yuriz43 said, I wouldn't have known that wasn't the original CS if someone hadn't said so.

Wow, I'm really surprised by you're guys' reactions. I think it's safe to say that you guys are pretty much morons. Hell, the way you view it, Half-Life 2 has horrible graphics. There so "bland" according to you nutjobs. CS:S Has awesome gameplay AND graphics. And so will Half-Life 2 when it comes out. Wanna try CS:S for yourselfs?
http://www.steampowered.com/?area=cafe_directory Try it and come back and tell me it was so "bland" and it sucked. Yeah, I thought so.
www.frag-ops.com is better then cs:source. Hell there is even a CS only map server that has CS remakes into the UT2k4 engine, and they look better then that.

Valve has a tough task with CS: Source IMHO. They have a large player base and need to keep everyone happy. On one hand, you have the people with decked out systems such as ourselves that want the gameplay of CS with the pretty graphics of a brand new game. On the other hand, you have the people with sub-par systems (the majority, I'd have to say) that want to be able to play the updated version too. So, once more, it appears that the hardcore gamers are going to have to take it on the chin.
Saying it doesn't look better than CS: CZ is just childish though. ;)
I dont like the way Valve is approaching this... sure all the cs players have low end systems.. but you know why? Because thats all they NEED. Make a good game, with great graphics, and surely they will find a way to upgrade. Probably through their parents or something. Valve is keeping us from advancing in graphics.
The screenshots look ok, nothing spectatular however. Definetely looks 10x better than CS however, although thats not saying much :)

I'd have to go with the nay-sayers on this one in terms of graphics. The game doesn't look impressive. Spout anything you want, I really don't care, but you have to admit, after so many years and with the hyped up Source engine, you would think they would do a better job. It looks better than CS and CZ, but then again, just about any game nowadays look better than those. Oh yeah, for the idiot who called everyone a moron for knocking the game for its graphics, well, get your head out of yer A$$ and take a better look at the screenshots. I doubt anybody is knocking the gameplay - I'll be playing this puppy when it comes out....but ever since Doom 3 and FarCry came out, HL2's graphics aren't all that impressive anymore. Attribute that to their constant delays.
Though, I'm still buying the game, heh. Just saying the graphics aren't all that it should and could be.
Well... someone in IRC linked to some of these screenshots which weren't obviously named (so I didn't know it was CS Source), and until i noticed the top (where the name was), I thought I was looking at CS...

I'll just say that I agree entirely with Severian.
