Hard Drive Problem

i just installed a new hard drive in a friends computer. It is a maxtor diamond max ata133 40g. It shows up fine in the bios and device manager, but not under my computer so i can format it. It is set up as the primary slave on the same channel as my primary hd. I also put it in my computer to format it and it does the same thing. Anyone have any advice?

Before you can format, you need to create a parition, or partitions. This can be done with Fdisk usually on a Win98Boot disk run in Dos Mode, or get Parition Magic and use the setup boot disks.

FastM is right. What OS do you have? If you have XP or 2000, you should be able to do what you need within windows.
