View Full Version : Porter Goss unfit to be CIA director?
well... he certainly seems to think so
In an outtake from Fahrenheit 9/11 that may turn out to haunt him, Porter Goss, the Florida Republican congressman who was selected by President Bush to head the CIA, told Michael Moore, "I couldn't get a job with the CIA today. I am not qualified."
He went on to explain that he has neither the "language skills" nor the computer savvy necessary for a CIA position. "The things that you need to have, I don't have," he told Moore. The excerpt from the deleted interview was published in today's (Thursday) "Rush & Molloy" column in the New York Daily News.
the things you learn about people from themselves...
:rofl
I feel MUCH safer now that bush has appointed this brilliant man to head our security efforts

Bleh, Bush appoints a man who feels himself unqualified. Not sure what this individual will do, but if this is how he feels of himself; it would be proper for him to decline the appointment and suggest a more qualified person be given the job.
I wonder if he'll accept the appointment?

Good God I hope that was out of context. What a horrible decision otherwise. I hope the man was joking or something.
:rofl
needless to say I found it extremely amusing...
I dunno the context... I posted as I saw it on www.imdb.com in their headlines section :)
This is stupid. Nancy Pelocy here self said he was qualified blah blah sung his praises in June. Now she says he is not qualified. Well which is it. The only person the dems would like in there is a Democrate. Any way who cares what they say and for you to jump on the DNC fax machine sazar is pretty weak. The truth is you really don't know what ur talking about here and only taking things from other patisans. This is pure politics.

he himself said he is not qualified...
now since he has himself said it that makes all your insinuations baseless...
obviously you don't know what the hell you are talking about going after me like that when all I have posted is what Goss himself has said...

Seconded rip... A person not feeling himself to be qualified is a bit different then someone "on the left" just comming out and saying it. Given what has happened, we really could use a head who feels up to the job...
yah... I dunno what would possess a person to say he would not be fit for a position and then take it later... :D
I reckon he'll do a decent job... he just has to make command decisions and not make daft statements like tenet did...
for all tenet's positives his "slam dunk" comment == his legacy... I just hope Goss doesn't live upto what he said before he took the job... that would not be good...

Yeah, if he gets the position we should wait and see. He might do a decent job. Does seem strange he'd take it if he doesn't feel himself qualified though...:

Yes one quote out of context.
you know something .... five years ago i didnt see myself as someone who could lead major project for multibillion dollar corperations.... but someone very close to me sat me down and told me right to my face i could do the job that im in now ..... sometimes thats what it takes ...
Yes one quote out of context.
since when have you started caring if something was IN context
I don't take things out of context.

Before making an allegation like that, it might be wise to post proof ;)

So the burdon of proof only lays upon me.

If you accuse it of being out of context, then yes the burden is on you because you have taken a solid stance. Sazar admitted he was not certain about context and therefore has no burden.
I just didn't accuse him. The proof is in the post. There isn't any context and you admitted that saz admitted such. So really you don't have a argument.

Your post stated as fact the notion that said quote was taken out of context. That means you took an absolute stance one way or the other. To have a legitimate absolute stance one must provide proof. Saz is sitting in the middle, which eliminates the need for proof as of now.
It was taken out of context. I didn't say it was wrong. I said it was out of context.
It is a QUOTE! with no context! THAT IS OUT OF CONTEXT!

Wrong. Out of context refers to choosing a quote that says one thing, but goes against all of what the rest of that document or speech states. For instance if, by some strange happening, Orrin Hatch were to say "John Kerry would make a good President, but George W. Bush is much better", it would be out of context to quote Orrin just as saying "John Kerry would make a good president".
And yet some wonder why I am not a liberal any more.

My political persuasion has nothing to do with an argument about the meaning of a phrase. The argument has everything to do with me being well-versed in the technical skills of argumentation.
No your argument has everything to do with semantics but that is all liberals argue. I think you think you are more versed than you actually are.

Just semantics...Semantics happen to make a very large difference in communcation, particularly with the English language. A simple apostrophe can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
Again you make a grandiose assertion with no sort of evidence, we in the argument community refer to it as a "claim without a warrant," but then again you probably knew that didn't you?
Maybe you should have taken (or been more attentive during) a speech class during your time at college, because regardles of the ad hominem attacks you make, you have used, and continue to use, an argument improperly.
