I just bought an hp pavilion a450n (P4 3.0 ghz). It came with an FX5200. I bought an XFX 6800GT to replace it. On startup, however, I get an alarm (a sustained high-pitch tone) from the hp, and no boot up. hp tech support says the alarm is video related; inability to find a video card (although with no card at all, there is no alarm), but has no more advice. XFX hasn't been able to help. I thought it might be the power supply (only 250w in the hp) but I've replaced it with 300w. Would love the great advice of the forum. Thanks!

Did you connect the GT to the power supply? Even if you did, a meager 300W power supply may not have enough juice to run a P4 3.0 and a 6800GT.

Go on, tell us what you were doing wrong. We won't laugh, honest.

(Actually, we probably will ;-))
